What is needed to put a 205 where a 208 was ???

Can it be done without swapping transmissions ???

And how well will a 208 stand up to a 440 engine ??

i do believe only the output shafts have to be changed. i can't remember which of the 3 (203, 205, 208) are about a half in or so shorter from one another, pretty sure it's 205/208. would work but things could get hairy quick. do it right the first time.

The 208 and 205 use the same trans output shafts. If you have a complete married dodge 205 it will bolt up to where a 208 was, with no mods to the trans.. Also four-speed and auto t-cases are the same except for the cummins trucks.

I have done nothing to it. I even ran it dry once, couldn't figure out what the strange noise was untill I checked the fluid level. Was basically completely empyt, still using the same tcase :)

I believe the 208 is 2.61 to 1 gear reduction, or was it 2 to 1? I don't remember now, I do know that the 241 is 2.71 to 1 gear reduction, and I would like to have a 241 over the 208.

Don't the 208's have all that vacuum crap? I ask cause my freind (FMJ) was going to get a 205 cause we thought that you had to to get rid of the vaccuum CAD crap.

well, the 203/205's are 1.96-2 to 1. I was thinking if the 208 will handle it, it would be a good substitute until I get the dopubler done.

I have a 727/205 combo now in the truck for a sb, I have a 727/stock 203 combo in the garge for BB & a 727/converted203 combo for a SB, and if I get this truck, I will have a 727/208 BB combo also.

I got too many griggin trans/tcase combos laying around.......and did I mention the 400, 360, & 318 engines ???

how do you go about getting rid of/fixing the vaccuum, cause thats probably the way for us to go, what with being poor and all.

cap the vaccum ports. There does need to be a breather line for the tcase, so don't cap that.

that's what i thought, but someone had mentioned that the output shafts are not the same length coming out about a 1/4-1/2 in off.

Your right, the 727 np203 trans uses a different output shaft then the 727 208/205.
