Lol, the 440 and 727 helps too, but I still really need a front locker. I'm not worried about the 5.38 pinion gear. 4.88 - 5.38 gears all use 8 tooth pinions. You don't get 7 tooth pinions untill 5.86 gears. I also talked to several different people that regularly break Dana 60 gears, I think the the 5.38 gears are just fine. I'm more worried about the 30 spline stub shafts and Selectro hubs right now. ;)

I run a Carter Thermoquad. The original carb that came with the RC was old and wore out, and it gave me a lot of trouble. It normally ran good climbing hills, but it struggled on steep decents and heavy bouncing. I rebuilt it a few times, and played with the float settings. It just never ran right, even on flat ground.

I then replaced it with a nearly brand new aftermarket Thermoquad (it's either a 9801 or a 9811, I can't remember) I got off Ebay. It has ALWAYS run great! A previous owner had drilled the main jets and sanded the needles so it ran rich. I ran it this way for more than a year. After my plugs fouled, I swapped in the needles and main jets from the original carb and it runs perfect. Off road it runs like it has fuel injection, I am not exagerating. It doesn't burb, it doesn't sputter, it doesn't die, on any hill, going up or coming down. I will eventually upgrade to FI someday, but this carb isn't forcing me to upgrade.

BTW, I also upgraded the starter to a used Nippondenso "mini" starter from an '88 318 TBI motor.  The ol' 440 has never spun so fast and started so easy, plus it's lighter than the old original starter.  I HIGHLY recommend this upgrade!  8)

Looks like a blast man - I'm going 'there' with the Nacho when it's done...and I'm running 35's with 3:55's.  We'll just see how long that lasts....

About $100.  It's a black and white pin striped canvas awning type material.

I was just reviewing your posts and your pictures of your vehicle!  Great job on the boxing of the frame at the steering box!! After you trimmed the cross support did you go back and add material above where you removed the material to put back the strength in that area?? That does need to be a How to post too, that was a great job!! putputt56!! ??? :D ;)

Thanks. I never added any material to the crossmember, I feel that the strength I have removed from the crossmember is negligible. So far it has been fine and I expect no problems.

X 2 I have a chunk cut out of the center of mine. All that cross member really does in hold the engine in place.

What I am saying is that the crossmember does not get as much stress as you would think it would. True it does provide some lateral support but it mostly holds the enging in place. As long as it still is still connected to both sides of the frame it will hold the engine in place.
