I went to a couple of JY's to find a 110 amp alternator, as I am upgrading from good ole 68. Anyway, cheapest I found was $25...for a boneyard special. I went on Discount Auto Parts page to price check...if was good enough I was going to eat the core charge (have other plans for ole 68) and They had a 114 amp reman for $34...no core charge. It is a special order deal, but it says it'll ship in 1 day...if you need one, that is a good deal and shipping is only $6.
Thought I'd pass it on. ;)

But I did find a set of headers off of an old power wagon for $50. :-\

But you will need the correct 100 AMP alternator brackets. They are not the same as the lower amperage alternators.

I saw a bracket at the JY. I can't tell you how good it will be yet, but I will update as I find out...as I expected they have delayed the shipment until the 9th of Feb.

I got mine off a 1975 Gran Fury but look for BB trucks w/upgraded alternators or fully loaded C body cars. Cars with power seats, windows and rear defrosters came with them as standard equiptment.

Sounds like a good upgrade. How will I know the alt when I go the the junk yard Sat? I am probably just going to get the bracket and buy that alt from discount

the 100A alternator is a night / day difference from the smaller one.. and the brackets ( if the motor has the complete set) look like you could pull the engine from it ( and I have).

That alternator is a lot bigger, if you have a 65 amp...or smaller than 114 it most likely wont have the colling fans (look at the one in your truck). The 144's are considerably bigger (look at the pic on the auto part site) and just look for that. The bracket is HUGE, one piece...I am guesstimating, but it is probably like 2 ft tall. Mine came off of an old Ramcharger, which still had the alt...but how can you beat $40 new (reman) and shipped w/ no core charge.

The alternator bracket on my old Fury bolted across the intake and the water pump.. it was a 2 piece.. mounted with maybe 7-8 bolts, and the 2 pieces had 1-2 bolts that tied them together on the top. It is a monster of a bracket hough..

That looks like a sweet deal.. Now call me a buzzkill if you want, but if you notice it says the shipping weight is 4 lbs?? That's pretty damn light I think for an alternator.. I'm trying to remember back when I replaced the 65A on my '85.. It had to weigh at least 8-10 lbs...

But they are also saying it is $34 (so maybe the pricing guy was high that day)...it's not like after the purchase they could say they need more $ for shipping. But they definately weigh more than 4 lbs.
