I have a NP435 that came out of a 75 Power Wagon and was behind a 360 2bbl then a NP203 was backed behind the 435. The trans had one problem,it was stuck in gear. I don't know exactly how but you could clutch it and move it but it would not move out of gear and we never got the truck running,we just parted it out. I want to put a 4 speed in Big Mo and I have all the things to do it except I'll need to get a new clutch,throw-out bearing, pressure plate and get the flywheel surfaced but then I have a problem with..can this trans be fixed or will it need to be rebuilt. I've looked at a rebuild kit and they are around 100 bucks plus the clutch, pressure plate,throw-out bearing and getting the flywheel surfaced. Problem I need help with is,it should bolt right up to the 360 4bbl that is in Big Mo correct? But then what about Big Mo having a NP208 t-case instead of a 203? Will the 208 bolt onto it? Also later on I want to put a 205 in it so that is another question to be answered. I have all the linkages, petels and all the basic parts to make my truck a 4 speed except having to rebuild the trans and junk like that. Any help on the above questions? Thanks Jimmy

well you need a diffrent bellhouse than the normal dodge 4 speed (dont know if you have one) also dose the back of the 435 have a slip yoke or a bolt on yoke i know mine has the bolt yoke and then a short drive then a np 205 t-case as far as fixing the tranny not to sure but good luck probly didnt help you much but its worth a shot

Well one thing to think of is if the crank is drilled deep enough to accept the input shaft. You can get a roller bearing from mopar to use in place of the standard bushing but you may have to cut the input shaft down. I wouldn't take the chance of going through all the work and putting a suspect trans in it. Can you shift it now that it is out of the truck?
I belive you would have to have a new main shaft for the 435 in order to run the 208 or 205. If you do a search on the site here someone posted pics of the differences, I think it was William.

Instead of doing things a billion times why not wait till you are finally decided on what trans and tcase you are finally going to use and then do it.
If you can move the shifter and still not get a different gear then you have a problem and something is broken and you better rebuild it 1st, unless you really want to put all that stuff in just to take it all back out again

I have some 4 speed swap stuff on my website: http://wlrgroupco.com/auto/ramcharger_page_1.htmThe good stuff starts on page 2. It will bolt up to your 360, use the 360 bell and flywheel that were with the tranny. You will need to use the special pilot bearing (see my web page) to get around the automatic crankshaft issue. The 203 mainshaft is too short to work in your 208 (I have a spare if you need one). It will engage the transfer case, but only partially! This will lead to certain catastrophic failure of the shaft and/or transfer case input! You will also need to change the extension housing I think in order to bolt up to the 208. As for it being stuck in gear, what gear is it stuck in? If the shifter is inserted in the tranny incorrectly, it will jam (you won't be able to move the shifter). If the shifter moves, but won't change gears, the problem is likely in the topcover assembly with a broken fork or slider? Take the top cover off and have a peek. These trannies are dirt simple to teardown, I have some blow ups and pics on my website. Check for wear on the Low gear (large) and the reverse counter gear, as they tend to wear (excessive bevelling on teeth corners) and cause the 435 to pop out of 1st and reverse. Also, the low gear has 2 flat springs that are prone to breaking. This will cause 1st to be difficult to engage. You won't really be able to tell if they are there until you get the trans apart though. Good luck, william
