Ive ran through the search and didn't find what i was after, so he res my question: What CB radio do you all use or recommend? Also what is the best antenna to run on a RC and where did you mount it? I know theres an install in the how to, but i want some opinions of what works and what doesn't. Ive got a cobra classic with a delta tune and two four foot fiberglass whips, but dont want to install them in fear they will snap when trail riding. Anyways just want you alls  Thanks Chris |

I like Cobras, they are a decent radio and probably the most common in use today. As far as antennas go, you can't beat a single stainless steel whip. Dual antennas do not work as well as one single antenna so if you run the fiberglass antennas you will at leas have a spare. If you go off road, use a 10 lbs spring in between the antenna and the mount so it will flex back. You will still have to keep from slamming it into overhead limbs sometimes but you can always tie it back or if it's on the mirror, just reach out and pull it down. I generally use a Motorola ball mount either through the body or on top of a step bumper, but I'm a bit more serious about my radios than some people due to my history of "talking skip". A typical mirror mount is fine as long as you aren't running a real heavy antenna and spring combo. Just my .02

here's my from an x long haul trucker.. Cobras are good radios, but I preferr the Uniden brand . They are cleaner sounding units. I like dual antennaes,,, BUT unless you can get atleast a 8' spread between them they are very directional. A fiberglass antennea will shatter from being whacked on the trees. So IMO the best offroad antennae is a 8' stainless whip mounted on a ball or on the left rear corner of the rig... |

I just use a CB on the trail. I run a Cobra radio with a Midland through glass cell phone look alike antenna.

I like my Galaxy radios quite well, in my truck I ran a DX88 HL with a texas star hd350 booster, and my other is a 77 I believe just like the 88 but without a freq counter. Have not been trucking for a while so they just sit here in the box, I liked center load steel antennae, but 4' fiberglass worked well with a basic radio and were cheap to replace when broken..

Cobra has a new blue tooth CB out now as well.
I've got one in my Kenworth, works really well. My only complaint is the bright blue channel readout & meter lighting, it's a little bit overpowering for night driving. |
