Title: Lame wheel bearings

Weak Link: The wheel Bearing/spindle design on the 5 on 4.5" front axles is weak and prone to fail when equipping the vehicle with tires larger than stock.

Models affected: 74-79 Ramchargers and Pickups equipped with Dana44fbj front axle.

What happens: The bearings are too close together to take the load and leverage of larger tires.

Sturdy fix: Mile marker makes a part time conversion kit for that replaces the stock hub but retains many of the existing parts. This conversion will cost about 700.00 dollars and includes parts to convert the transfer case to part time as well.

A better fix that will also allow you to keep your fulltime transfer case fulltime is to replace everything from the steering knuckles out using parts from 80-93 Dodge Truck axles. (This conversion will require you to keep 2 sets of wheels for one vehicle because the replacement parts contain the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. Or you can convert the rear axle to the larger bolt pattern)This conversion can be completed for 300.00-400.00 dollars depending on parts availability in your area.

To convert the rear axle to the larger 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern you will need to replace the axle shafts, spider gears and c clips from your donor vehicle. You will also need to swap out the rear brakes including  the backing plate.

A complete front axle or parts for the knuckle swap can be located on eBay or your local wrecking yard.
