Title: More Sloppy Steering
Weak Link: Steering box, draglink, tie rod ends and balljoints.
Models Affected: 74-Present Trucks, 74-93 Ramchargers/Traildusters
What happens: Worn factory parts, loose bolts and out of adjustment steering box cause "loose" steering.
Fix (74-Present Trucks, 74-93 Ramchargers/Traildusters): Often in the older trucks the bolts holding the steering box can loosen causing the box to "wobble" and produce loose steering. There is also an adjustment on the steering box itself to take play out of the box.
The most common cause of sloppy steering is worn tie rod ends, drag link ends, and/or ball joints. Have someone turn the steering wheel from left to right as you watch all the moving steering components to find what part has a delay in movement. Replace the worn parts with factory or aftermarket parts.
