I have enjoyed everyone's build threads for years and learned alot about our vehicles that I would have never even thought of.  So I guess it's my turn to pay back for the information that I have received from here.  I have been working on this thing for a few years, not really dedicating a large amount of time, but really have been motivatied to begin the 'List'.

Things I would like to get accomplished this season (hopefully)

- finish the rear bed  with herculiner
I have done the complete passenger side from just under the window to the floor.  Took one quart to do that.  Picked up a gallon to finish it all, just waiting until its warm enough.

- install rear speakers
I got this finished today, the wiring is a work in progress, but I got tunes from the back.  I know that I will need good speakers when I go with tube doors this spring, since the only set of speakers that were in it were in the doors.  That would suck not having tunage with tube doors!

- get the front springs replaced or beefcaked.
I always thought springs should have an arch to them, not flat.  It' bothered me every since I bought this truck at auction

-install the winch and hydraulic equipment
I came across a huge direct drive Tulsa winch for nothing.  I rebuilt with new guts, spray painted, and converted to hydraulic.  Fabricated an oil tank that sits down in the engine compartment on the passenger side just behing the headlights.  Got a electric clutch pump, rebuilt it, painted it, fabricated brackets so it sits were the A/C pump sits.  Problem is now I would like to have compressed air for air tools down at the tree farm, I've got an air compressor down there but it doesn't have enough balls to run a real impact.

-fabricate badass tube doors
These things are going to have an armrest, pistol pouch and they will fit up just like our doors do now, problem is that I haven't figured out the guts of the problem, yet, WIP

-fabricate interior body liners
I have a buddy at Lowe's that lets me use his discount on material when I do projects for him.  DIAMOND PLATE - need I say more?

-replace front windshield
My son and I were driving down at the tree farm on the back 40 when we were looking at some wildlife, and I forgot about the washes on the hill, he launched off of the seat and into the windshield and now there is a good side spider web on the passenger side top of the glass.  Yes he is fine, just laughed it off, but it did injure his and my ego!

- replace rear glass
Couple of years ago we had some punks running around the neighborhood punching out everyones' glass.  That's when I used to park on the road, needless to say, I don't anymore. I replaced it with plexaglass, which surprised me, it works pretty damn good.

- tint window
I don't like everyone walking by to see what's in the back

- make the tailgate lockable
I have had the thoughts in my mind for a while about making it a remote lock system.  Guess I better get that figured out before all the diamond plate is installed!

- replace lights on the tire carrier
Got a couple of 200 watts on the swing out tire carrier, think I want a couple more on there just in case someone wants to tailgate!  BTW they come in real handy working out of the trailer down at the tree farm in pitch dark

- get the relays installed for the electrical gear
I want everything to run off of relays make it a lot easier for me to use the system if something would need to be jumper to work

- install electrical switch to control the rediline genset
I have had the rediling genset setting on the 2 nd battery for years now, I think I would rather have it on it's own circuit, got the gear that I want to do it with, just have to get the time and a couple of things finished out to mount the solenoid to, and to cut the line to the genset to the correct length

- air compressor
Yea gotta have air

-remount front headliner
had to drop the headliner to get the guage set mounted up, buddy said that he would recover it and install it for 250 bucks, what a buddy!

-fabricate center console
Guess since I will be replacing the center console, I'll need to replace the seats, and while I'm at it I think I'll strip out the floor covering and paint on some herculiner before I put everything back it.  I saw a center console that Jungle Jim fabricated, man that is an awesome idea, and he did a great job at it too!  I don't know if I will go with that same style but I really was impressed with the tab idea that he came up with on that thing.
- shotgun mount
I like having my boom boom stick close at hand down at the tree farm, especially when it is warm.  I HATE SNAKES!!!
- level out the rear bumper get it pimped out
I was in a hurry when I built that thing, the weekend before I was pulling some good size oak out of a bad slope, didn't have a good spot to hook on to, pulled the bumper clean off.  FYI don't wrap a cable around the bumper and try and jerk a 30" diameter tree uphill, something ALWAYS breaks!  Couldn't figure out why the scrap man was laughing at me when I took it to him!?!
- Get Jungle Jim's rear spring kit and install it
Damnit that means I've got to drop the tank again and screw with that filler tube AGAIN.

I got the switches installed into the guage set yesterday, and figured out what type of brackets I need to make to hold the wiring into the recesses in the roof.  I also got the new heater control switch mounted in the overhead panel.  I think after the guage set is finished out there will be 30 or so wires running out of it.  The majority of them are going overhead to the driver's side door post, down it, and from the main power junction, to the switch, back to the power junction, to the relay, and out from there.

Also go the fuel pump installed and working with no problems

Recieved the fuel pressure guage, but haven't had a chance to figure out the plumbing for it yet, I'll probably figure how and where I'll mount this and start picking up parts this week.

Installed the driver's side rear speaker, and wired both of the rears for sound.

I'll run by Lowe's sometime this week on the way home from work and pick up the material to make the brackets for the wiring, then this weekend get the brackets installed.  I need to get to radio shack and pick up more wire and butt connectors.

I think I'll make templates for the next section of diamond plate for the bed.  From the back of the speaker sections to just past the wheel wells

Nice so far, got any pics of the whole truck? Grin  I`ve got similar plans.  I am planning on just taking my current doors(about shot anyway), and modifying them to suit my needs.  Then getting another set of "regular" doors for when I want windows. Roll Eyes  I have never liked tube doors on SUVs, but feel free to change my mind Wink

Finally I got all of the pieces to do the rest of the electrical tricks that I want done.  The key to the system will be not having to rely on the factory alt wire to battery, which I have been for a while.  Now I can run the 2/0 wire from the alt to the battery.  I already have 2/0 wire from the battery to the isolator, the second battery, and all the way rearward to the genset.  Now I'll be able to power up the welder for longer then a couple of minutes without worry of burning up fusable links.  Not like I have anymore anyways they all got fried in the first electrical fire.  Started welding on the front gates, smelled plastic burning, looked up and saw fire dancing from the hood.  Not a good day for the dodge.  The truck sat there for a good six months until I got enough free time to get back down there with a buddy and flat bed it home.
I needed to keep the alt. in it's original setting for one reason, warranty.  I have a lifetime warranty on this thing and I plan on burning up a couple more alts before I can't walk anymore.  BTW  I might have another place that will do a lifetime warranty on the steering gear box, which is a complete different project but I didn't want to forget about it so I typed it here.
So here is the last part I was needed to get for the upgrade, not altering the alt. to make a wire fit.  The lug was a couple of bucks, and 10 minutes with the die grinder and it fits the alt lug enough to give me the room to fit the 2/0 wire lug where it needs to be.
Now that the planning for tomorrow is finished, all I have to do is wake up.  I keep thinking about that idiot Murphy and how he hates the grunts.  We'll see what happens!

Even though it rained all damn day, I got some little stuff finished to the point where I will need to pick up on it on a dry day.  Ran all of the electrical for the guage cluster overhead and back behind the driver's seat.  Got the overhead blower motor switch wired and plumbed.  Got a good start to the electrical mess at the rear battery.
I couldn't mount up the second of the diamond plates for the walls of the rear since I forgot to buy the angle iron I need to secure the bottom of the piece to the wheel well.  I forgot my right angle drill at the shop so even if I bought the angle I still would not have been able to secure it down.  Therefore I was not able to wire up the power point for the overhead switches or get them to light up.
Nor was I able to run the 2/0 cable under the hood from the alt to front battery.
Nor did I get the cb in the truck, for the antenna had a loose connection so I didn't want to take a chance and fry the cb if I keyed up.
I'll try again tomorrow, but more rain is expected.

I forgot to get the relay that will power up the rear, so I swung by and picked that and an inline fuse up.  I know that the alt is rated to 220 amps, but I doubt that it will ever actually get there even with a full load on it.  So I picked up two 150 amp fuses.  The neat thing about how I am setting this up is that when I blow the 150 I will know that the alt is giving more power, and the batteries are storing less power, i.e. the batteries are ready to be replaced.  Just need a few small pieces of angle and I'll be ready for the weekend (hopefully no rain and I'll remember to bring home the right angle drill)

I am in the process of updating the family computer network, when I did I didn't think about the central computer and the capability of it (1990ish computer).  I loaded up a program for the blackberries to communicate with the computer and the computer freezes up.  I am still taking pictures, but until I get the main computer updated I will have to keep all of you in the dark.  Sorry, didn't happen on purpose but yes I accept fully responsiblity for the lack of recent updates!!!

Haven't been able to get alot done on the toy with the other projects that I have on my table yet to do.  So I've been taking the time to hunt for parts for the toy, the guys at work have finally talked me into junking the TBI crap on the motor and switching it all over to 'old school' carb.  I have altered my plans for the next six months to change over the TBI gear to carb, and to locate and build another motor for this comming winter.  I know that I will need it to haul all of the wood that I will be pulling from the tree farm.  We recently had 500 trees cut, the logger takes the straight wood and leaves the tops behind, so I have firewood for the next 40 years or until it rots.  I'm tired of planning a trip down with a load of material to the cabin, take the time during the week to purchase and load the material, get up Saturday morning jump in the dodge and the damn thing not start.  I hate TBI, so I had the guys from work come over and give me a run down of WTF is going on.  As far as they can figure out that between the Cole-Hersee alt and the Rediline AC/DC genset, I am shorting the computer out.  So out with the tempermental shit and in with the reliable.  Not like I am going to miss a few miles per gallon, might gain it!
During the warm months we do other things down there.  I did a 49' by 40' deck on the cabin (that was built by my grandfather Boy Scout Troop in 1932).
In the picture is 1/3 of the deckboards that I will need for the second part of the deck.  The second part of the deck will attach to the first part but will span an additional 20'. This secion will be 60' by 30' and will have an area for a firepit built into it.  Also it will have additional support for the third section that will extend out over the ravine behind the cabin (that will be the third section).  The picture was taken HALF way up the main hill everyone going up the the cabin has to drive.  It's just under a mile from the main road (gravel) to the cabin (7/8ths of a mile).  If you zoom in at the base of the hill you can see two people, both of my younger brothers.  Also in the picture at the right side of the rear of the truck you can notice the aux. jumper lugs.  How many do you pull out the jumper cables and end up 8 inches short?  This way I don't have to drive into traffic or worry about driving too far into a ditch to get to a battery to jump it.
These two things, the deck and the dodge are two of many projects that I tackle on a neverendless journey.

Tomorrow the tbi system will be gone replaced with a Holley 650 carb.  I think the computer was getting flashed by the alternator when the batteries had a full charge.  More like a static shock, but this wouldn't allow the computer to turn on the ASD relay, sometimes the static would clear immediately, other times it would take days.  I did all of the test that alldata suggested to do, I did all of the tests that the aftermarket manuals said to do.  I found a FSM for an 88 and followed it to the letter.  I happened to come across a tester at a 'former' dodge dealer, I tested the computer and it passed the test.  I even tested it detached from the truck and it passed.  I got so frustrated that I went out and bought a midrange Fluke tester, and that's when I realized what was happening.  As soon as the batteries were fully charged, the truck would shut off.  Then I started playing around with it, with no load, shut down pretty quick.  With a midsize load, lasted a bit longer, but still shut down.  Then with everything I could turn on, it ran for 20 minutes, then kaput, dead truck.  So I started to hunt for parts.  Check here first (of course) then craigslist (jackpot).  Found an intake manifold from an 82.  Checked the autozone for a dist. with points.  Got it there new with the warranty, took the intake to a sandblaster and they shot the hell out of it. Went to the paint store, looking for copper heat paint, and settled for orange, painted it that night, let it dry then cleaned all of the threads with taps, installed plugs and stuff.  I then started the hunt for the carb, and quickly had one given to me, rebuilt in front of my eyes, A Holley 650 with electric choke, man I was sweating that one, and got extremely lucky.  I am truly blessed to have a friend like that.  Thanks Eddie!  Next it was all of the small stuff.  I have gotten 3 pressure regulators, and I have gotten tired of getting the wrong type.  Originally I was going to keep the fuel pump in the tank as the service pump, but since Napa can't get their head out of their ass, I will change the fuel pump (No I'm not dropping the tank).  But I will use one of the three regulators that Napa sent to the shop for me.  I even gave them their part number, twice!

BTW I have already figured out what the next project on the toy will be, a rear toolbox to store all of my shit that I currently have in a milkcrate, tyed to the spare tire upright.  I want something that is lockable, but doesn't look like I picked it up from a surplus store, besides I have 6 ammo cans behind the front seats holding all of my other shit that I use but not as often as the shit that is in the milkcrate.  I've caught people in the act of pulling chains out of the milkcrate, so something else is going in.  Don't get me wrong, I like ammo cans, but, damn I get tired of opening then closing, opening then closing, oh shit I forgot to put this away, open then close.  Slide out put the shit in, slide back in.  Done with everything in the back, set the lock, and away I go.  I have also noticed that there is alot of unused space behind the wheel well when an ammo can is bolted down.  If you get a really big one, then Murphy is there to say, that big heavy thing is at the bottom of that big ammo can.  Then you gotta pull all of the shit out, pull the big heavy thing out, then pick up everything.  Oh I'm done using the big heavy thing, then you gotta put it back!  It's still in the cardboard stage so it might be installed by Christmas (it took me two months with the gauge set to figure out size, location, switches, and gizmos that would be installed on it, 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there)

Got a new toy about a week ago, decided I needed a break from the Dodge.   Did get the charging system back on line, don't like how it flickers, but I figure its better then fully fielding the alt.
Haven't gotten the fuel system worked out yet. The first fuel pump gave me 1.5 psi at the carb. It would start and idle fine but would sputter and die when put in gear. Checked to see if I could install a mech fuel pump but all I could see was a bolt head, so I guess Murphy wins again!  Got a larger fuel pump now I've got 6.5 psi at the carb. Regulated it down to 4.5 psi starts fine idles fine, keeps running at idle in gear but its got a dead spot at 2000 rpm I can feather throught that spot but I think I'm going to contact Holley tech and see what they say
The new toy I picked up for $25.00 from a farmer he didn't remember he had it. It was parker out in a field for the past three years. I got a battery, my tools and figured I'd be in this field for the next couple days getting this beast going.  I pulled out there at 9:00 pm, put the battery in, opened the air cleaner to make sure there wasn't any mice nest in the TBI (Murphy has got to quit screwing with me one of these days) put the Mac jumper pack on it, checked the oil, shot a quick burst of brake cleaner in the top, held my breath and hit the key. With a large fog lifting from the exhaust (from the brake cleaner) it roared to life the first time!  Holy shit!

Breaks over time to get the evil bastard on the road again.  Decided that the 650 holley was to much for the old tired engine, located a 390 Holley out of Eddie's parts barn.  Bolted it down hooked it up, wire tied the kickdown cable into the forward position, I figure if I need to down shift, then the shifter is right there, I'm not going to make any landspeed records in the next 6 months so who cares!  I did order the Lokar cable, and bracket but I am in no hurry to install them, I think I will do the body lift first before I install the cable.  Set the points, and timing by ear.  Drove it to work and home no problems.  Did get the carboard toolbox laid out and tape together so I can figure a material list and bend angles.  If memory serves me it will be 19" tall, roughly 28" long, and about 8" wide.  My idea is for the box to envelope the right rear corner behind the wheel well and the rear angle area.  I have three sections that will be accessible from the inboard side of the box with hinged doors that will lock into position with a 'master' style lock mechanism.  The top will be open, but about 4" deep to hold the shit that I need alot, like chains, pry bars, shotgun shells (snakes and to remove the locks I can't find the keys for!).  If I need to secure the top I think I'll make a pop top mount like an ammo can top.  I haven't completely figured out the master lock mechanism yet, I do like how the locks are on our service trucks.  It has one lock at the rear of the truck bed that slide out toward the rear to unlock all of the boxes on that side of the truck, and it slides in to lock all of them.
I also need to make a larger air cleaner for the new carb.  I have an 8" on there now, when I was leaving for work this morning, it was wanting to die, so I stopped at the entrance and removed the entire assembly.  Guess I need to find a cheap air filter that has a good diameter that is readily available.  If I remember tomorrow, I'll take and post pics of the air cleaner and the toolbox in cardboard (mockup) tomorrow.
Lets see if I have any pics on here I haven't uploaded yet
The first one I believe is the dodge torn down with the intake removed.

Here is the first mock up in cardboard of the toolbox. Normally I use the first mockup to figure out the dimensions that will be finalized.  Then I make another mockup out of cardboard to the revized measurements but add things like finished size drawers and latch catchers basically figure out large items then make another mockup and deal with smaller (but equally important) items. I might get around to making my decisdion for basic overall dimensions by the end of next week and have the second cardboard mock up done by the end of the month

Drove to work the past couple days, no problems since I got it squared away.  Im holding off on mounted the kickdown linkage for now. I have a 3" body lift I will be putting on next, so I figure it would be silly to buy a lokar cable then do a body lift then half to buy another one. I am going to strip out the computer harness this weekend and put a condenser in Vic. I think that will be a good couple of steps on both vehicles

the body lift won't affect the kickdown linkage. i have used the same lokar kit on a lifted and non lifted body.
