Plugged in the block warmer on the 'ol 6.7. It's supposed to get down into the mid twenties tonight and I'll be using it to take Precious back to Mt. Doom for some more forging.

Er, uh, I mean, I'm taking the RC to Brutal tomorrow for a few little Christmas items.  Smiley

Someone else asked me for a pic of the rear shock mounts. I don't have one that I could find and it's about 50 miles away right now. If you aren't in a big hurry, I'll try to take some good pics when I go back over to BOR next.  Smiley

Yes, there's been some new stuff I haven't posted for almost a month, but I've been all but living in McAllen (on the Mexico border) since I term'd our manager down there. I have a newbie that started this past Monday, but he is on a "test run" for two weeks. If he works out, I'll see what he needs to transfer permanent.

I need to take pics of the rear shock mounts as requested as well as the other "new stuff". Not sure when... last weekend was our 10 year anniversary, so when I got home from McA we went dropped off the kids & went out. This coming weekend is Henry's 9th birthday, so that's pretty booked up too. I'll try to slip them in somewhere...  Roll Eyes

your truck has come a long way since I left, looks good now though how more you got planned for it?  I just got back from Afghanistan, and looking forward to getting some work done on my truck.  Keep up the good work on your truck the body work and paint looks great.

Huh Huh

One of our Texas chapter members had his 3 kids with them. The middle one is around Henry's age, so he asked if he could ride with us. During one of our breaks, all three of his kids were in my RC while I was talking to some others. His youngest was like 5 and she took a ball point pen and drew on the back seat and on the top.

He was very apologetic and offered to pay to recover my seats. I declined, so instead he hooked me up with some NOS convertible top corner pads. They are the rubber ones and are very hard to find. I haven't tried yet, but I may be able to use a stain remover and get the ink off the fabric.

Im wondering how your cage is driving down the road..mine moves back and forth about 3/4 inch. Some of it obviously has to do with the unbalanced 44" bias tires but I think it did it before on the 33's. Mine is tied into the floor only...and we were talking about doing what you did..hooking it to the frame...but my concern is if its bolted to the floor and frame w/o a bushing of some sort what happens to all the "travel" or sway that normally would occur at the body mounts now that it is rigid?

that may not have made sense...what is the benefit of bolting to the floor then welding to the frame versus hole-sawing a 4" hole through floorboard and running directly to frame? Im just trying to figure out my best move here. By the way...BADASS rig..loved the video! thanks, James

If you just cut a hole in the floor and ran the cage directly to the frame, you wouldn't be able to remove the body without cutting out the cage.

There are bushings on both sides of the floorpan (bottom & top sides). If you have a cage sandwiched to your floorpan and tied to the frame, you can unbolt the cage and take it out if ever needed. If you weld it direct, that sucker is in there, and if you need access to the interior or do a repair that is necessary w/o the cage in the way... well, you are stuck.

Going down the highway, I have minimal cage shake (less than 1/4"). On the trail it creaks and squeeks and I've seen up to 1/2" movement when really articulating.

Thanks for the comment.  Smiley

I haven't tried to clean it yet. I'll probably try Will's suggestion first, since I've heard from others it works good.

We have a contract with a builder and the lot has been prepared. I'm expecting them to start in 3-4 weeks. The slab will take 4 pours and about 5-6 weeks by itself. The house has a walk out basement, so lots of concrete.

Congrats on the house man!

And killer RC! I don't know how I've missed this one for the last few months. But all the little touches on your truck make it one of a kind!

I would say the shop is medium w/4 bays. BOR is very well known though. During Petersen's OR Mag Ultimate Adventure in Texas, one of their stops was at the Cline Ranch just down the highway from BOR. James was invited to Cline during their wheeling and ended up towing several of the UAW rigs back to his shop for all night repairs. They mentioned him in that edition of the UAW article.

James grew up in his dad's machine shop, and knows how to do 99% of anything you would want to do to a 4x4 for show, trail or competition. Not only that, he is a perfectionist, so he doesn't send anything out that is crap or substandard. Between that and getting out on the trail himself, he has a reputation for knowing what he is doing and building quality rigs.

Ask any of the guys from the TX chapter that have wheeled with him as well. He's fun to hang out with and is always willing to help someone on the trail. Danny, who works at the shop is a hoot too. They are all good people.

James texted me & said Larry has the XO caged Jeep built at BOR and Artie & wife Bunny have BOR axles. He doesn't remember the others w/o last names or more info.

Brad 2 questions about your hood.
1. is it an aar quality fiberglass hood?
2. are the front facing scoops open or is there an opening on the rear of the bulge?
thanks

Hi Brian

Yes, the hood is AAR.

The scoops come closed, but have a nice ribbed edge for you to cut them out if you want. You could cut out the front or the rear if you wanted. I wanted the front.

I bought my RC the year I got out of college in 1990. I didn't exactly whip it into shape in a short amount of time, but I did drive, wheel and enjoy it all the way up until it was torn down to the frame.

Thanks for the props and I look forward to seeing your pics.

Looks like Precious may get a dunk in the mud at the end of this month. The Medina Valley Mud Drags are too close to home to miss. It's a new track with a real christmas tree and everything. Too bad I won't be mounting some Boggers on my spare wheels before then...

I'll post some pics after the race because I know Will and some of the others don't believe I would ever get her muddy.  Grin

PS;
Did you start on your house?

The race in August was to freakin hot at 100 degrees, so I didn't go. I DID go to the one in October, though. So did James (Brutalowner) and Jarod (ramwrench).

They only had two diesels show up, so they stuck them in our class, which was Renegade. They also only had two Modified Stock show up so they also were put in our class. I beat everyone including the diesels except the two modified stock trucks.

One was a Bronco shell with a 460, no interior, door panels, no bumpers, no tailgate, glass body panels and a 460. He beat me with a 4.9 sec time vs my 5.0.

The other was a stroker Chevy pickup, again no bumpers, tailgate, interior, etc and was running nitrous. He beat me 5.0 to my 5.1 and got me by .003 on the light.

My truck probably weighed a good 1800-2000 lbs more than their trucks did. They also had cut Boggers while I had my DOT BFG MTs. The races start back up in March. I'm thinking of doing one race with the bumpers, skid plates, rear carpet set, back seat & tail gate yanked. Should be worth 400 or so lbs and hopefully get me into the 4.9 sec elapsed times. I also have another full set of wheels I could put some Boggers on.  Roll Eyes

Sorry, no pics. It was at night, so very dark in the pits. I'll get Missy to go in March and take some pics from the bleachers.
