Here's my project. Just bought her 3 days ago for $300.00. I have only added another $20.00 so far for a 6 month old, but perfectly good battery. I have the tank, and covers off for maintenance in the photo. The forks are pitted somewhat, and were really crappy looking, but I hit all the chrome with steel wool and WD-40 and except for the pitting on the forks, she shined right up.

I got real lucky and all the signals, lights, and the horn work. The clutch cable will need an adjustment or replaced and the only goofy thing so far is the rear brake light stays on when you put the key to the 'lock' position. Oh well, I can live with that - I'll just park her in the 'off' position.

The tank wasn't too bad. I just rinsed her with some fresh gasoline and what's coming out is pretty clean. The petcock will need some attention because it still drips slowly in the 'off' position.

The upper portion of the carbs look great, but the float bowls were coated with murky varnish. I had to scoop the gunk out. Apparently I didn't get the jets clean enough because she still won't start with gasoline. She will run if you keep a constant spray of starter fluid, so I'm pretty sure that I just need to clean the jets better.

I'll keep everyone updated on progress.

- Tom

Update:

Gas Tank Gets Body Work Done.

Put Back Together.

OK,  first thing is noticable in the pics - the gas tank has been sanded, bondo-ed, sanded, sanded, sanded, and primered.  I'm not sure if I will resto it and keep the kawasaki emblems, or fill in the screw-holes and do some custom flag or USMC graphics.

Next thing that is noticible is that with the exception of the mirrors (which are sitting in back of the R/C), it's all back together.

What's not noticible in the pics are the insides of the carbs which have been cleaned thoroughly and also the petcock which has been rebuilt.

She started right up and idled good and was even responsive, until I forgot to open the choke after idling for a few moments and she stalled out.  (DOH!!!!)

Still a little lumpy with idle, and hesitates sometimes when i open the throttle, but she did sit for 2 years (at least), and i haven't even run more than an ounce of gas through her yet.

All in all, it's coming together nicely.
