If some sort of chat room applet could be added to the site like what SteelSoldiers has, that would be worth doing but most people are not going to mess with it if it's too hard to figure out or get working. The average computer user these days has no idea how to do IRC or anything and most of the people I know gave up on any sort of messenger like Yahoo or AIM in favor of Twitter or texting. If it could be a room here that people could just log into with their RCC username that would be cool but even so I doubt anyone but us "regulars" would even bother with it. It would be a nice way to cut down on some of the more useless threads but it would probably only be a matter of time before some sort of political argument started, lol.

Incorporating a java webapplet of IRC into a page that could be linked through our page here would be about as hard as replacing a headlight bulb.
The channel is already registered over on dalnet, and there are three feasible options for getting there:
1) downloading a dedicated IRC client like mIRC
2) downloading a browser add-on like Chatzilla for Firefox
3) as mentioned earlier, incorporating it into a webpage so you don't need any software other than the latest and greatest Java. Mibbit does free (I believe) incorporation widgets that should be fairly easy to script.

before I recall there was the java applet but also lotta people used their mIRC clients as well.
It was more of the "regulars", but most of the others are only here to look at build pics and vehicle help.....well except for onlydodgewilldo, his sole purpose seems different.

Before we used a Java app to access an IRC room, but most used their own IRC client to access. The "RCC Bot" was mIRC if I recall correctly.
If there is a nice applet out there I won't mind adding it to the site.

See, that's why I was saying a simpler app would be better for those who are not computer savvy. That's a mess to go through for some people who are not familiar with computers and would rather just sign up like they do for a forum. You have to remember that probably 50% of the people who visit this site don't yet know how to post pics or even how to copy and paste with CTRL. Something a bit more integrated into the site, again I use SteelSoldiers as an example, would be a lot simpler and easier for folks to understand. You will probably never get a lot of people to join chat just because they don't want to mess with understanding the /commands.

Have you tried the new app? The new app is simple: Click the link, enter your chat name, and submit. You're in the room. That's it. All of this other stuff is extra if you want to. Once you're in, it's just type and hit enter like any other chat program. There are other options, like uploading pictures, hell even translation. But it is about as simple as you can get. You ought to try it before you knock it.
I understand that downloading mIRC or another stand alone IRC program would be hard for someone who is computer illiterate to grasp fully, but the app provided in the link is not.

Yeah, it was less than that for mine, now that I went back and looked. I just didn't check the computer after about 30 minutes, and it was there when I checked it again a few hours later. Didn't look at the time stamp.
I'm trying to figure out why it is banning people. I'm guessing because they all end in ircip1.mibbit.com but I don't know. May have to email the server administrators. Sam, you able to help out on this at all?

We're going to try a different server that is a supposed to be a little more supportive of mibbit. Ultimately, we're not going to have too much luck with java supported irc clients because they are basically a portal, through them, for you to access an IRC server. So what the IRC server (originally atlanta.ga.us.dal.net) sees is multiple logins from one IP address (the mibbit central core). Some servers are more happy about this than others. The link at the top of the thread will reflect the change in servers.
