Getting bids on the gears etc for the Jeep, want to get this all done before September, my Jeep Club is looking into going to Moab in September and if I go I want this done before we go. Will be taking the wife on this trip since she hasn't been to Moab and think she would love the trip. puttputt56

Just got back from our 24 day vacation up through California Coast, Oregon and Washington then a 13 day Alaska Cruise (9 days inland and 4 days on the ship). Drove up to Seattle to fly out to Anchorage for the 9 day inland portion of the vacation, then got on the ship and did that for 4 days to Vancover. Then a coach ride to Seattle. Then stayed there for 2 days, then off to Walla, Walla Washington. Spent 2 days and night there, then drove back through Washington/Oregon and then down the coast of California back to Bakersfield. Got home yesterday around 6:30 pm. Now to get the yard looking good again and start a detail list of exactly what parts I want installed in the Jeep axles, so the bid will be the same for all of them. Going to three places to get the bids. September is just around the corn so need to get with it!! puttputt56

Stopped off at two places and submitted a work order of what I want done (type of gears and posi units) for a bid. One was at a new place but the owner is one of our Jeep club member and races the King of the Hammers and the other is Shocker (Monster Truck) Shop and I have known Pat Gerber since he was a teenager. So hopefully the bids will be coming back to me soon!! puttputt56

Well I have gotten the bids back from both after making several changes to my want list and they both are about the same. The work is to install 4:56 gears front and rear (old ones are 3:07s). Putting an Auburn ECTED Unit in the rear and upgrade the rear axles to 30 spline shafts. All for $2,660 including tax. Now to tell one of them to order the parts and lets get this done. puttputt56

Yep, had quite a few hot lunches that way when roughnecking. Set it next to the turbo on a Cat or Waukesha rig motor, warms up nicely. Good lookin' Jeep btw.

Thanks I think it will meet my needs much better with the addition of the lower gears (higher numericallly). Still have the fender flares to put on and a couple other small items and I should be finished with it. Now to use it with my local Jeep Club NO real hard stuff just some good old outdoor driving!! puttputt56

Got her back today. Boy what a difference, I got my power back that I lost with the addition of the larger tires. My speedo is off now (reading higher) will have that fixed later I can live with that. For now I will just use the gps for my mph. Now to test it out with a trip to Moab, Utah September 15 through September 22. The electrical switch we put just to the right of the existing electrical panel I installed a year ago. Looks good and is fairly handy to turn on when I need a locked rear end. puttputt56
I will take pictures of that (electrical switch).

We ordered a new gear for the speedo to bring it back to reading correct mph. It was off more than I thought it would be (reading 80 plus at 60 mph). So ordered the new gear (30 teeth to 39) it is supposed to be there today, hopefully it will so it will be install in time for the trip to Moab. puttputt56

Wrong gear arrived. Right numbers on the envoice but the part didn't match the envoice. So on back order, will have to live with it for the trip to Moab, bummer!! This is why I never got into sales, this was the third business and the third time it was wrong. I see why business are going out of business!! puttputt56

We just got back from the Moab trip, had a great time with the Jeep Club. Got alot of sight seeing in, took lots of pictures. Two days my wife and I road with the Jeep Club. Had a great time riding with them. They are much to Hard Core for me and my Jeep. Glad we road with them and not taken my Jeep. It would still be up there broken down or totaled. I road in a rock crawler 4x4 buggy and it went just about everwhere possible!! All the other Jeeps were equiped with D60s front and rear and now I see why they need them. I would have taken my Jeep on Hell's Revenge but the day they did that we were sight seeing. The gears did great didn't have to down shift once when going up hills (I-15, I-70, Route 24, 12 and 9). We were able to maintain the posted speed limit. The right speedo gear came in now, so will get that changed out tomorrow. puttputt56

I'm curious how long that took to cook. A little while ago I got to wondering how long it would take to reheat pizza at 210 degrees. I can't do that well with my car, things don't cook so well at 160 degrees. Nice Jeep puttputt56, I bet the gears will be a good improvement too, sounds like the axles will be better.

This wasn't my idea, hunters have been doing this for years! With the newer engines and all the wiring etc it is harder to get the tray close to a real heat source like with the older engine set ups(could actually places them on the exhaust header). It depends on weather (outside temp.) etc. but on an average it takes about 30 minutes to 45 depending on how hot you want them to get. I have seen the cans pop too so you check them every 15 to 20 minutes.

If they are left under the hood while wheeling, I bet it would work rather well. Given an amount of time that is.

Usually as it got close to the time that we were going to take a lunch break/dinner break we would stop and put the items in our backet and then drive around (still hunting) for 30 to 40 minutes then stop and check on them to see if they were done or not!! I have seen people just throw a couple of things just on the exhaust manifold and do the same thing. But some times they would loose one or two of the items because there was nothing there to hold them there. puttputt56

Well the Jeep is getting a rear RochHard cross bar (painted it today) and I ordered the rear angle bars so they are on the way. I welded two loops on the rear cross bar to tie things to if needed!! I may add one loop each to the side bars not sure yet. Now to remove the factory roll bar padding and cover so I can mount them. puttputt56

This afternoon I went and picked up the two new angle bars (RockHard) for my Jeeps roll cage. Now to paint them and install those too!! Now if the rain would just stop I would be out there doing that. It is to cold to even paint them now!! Too much moisure in the air!! But at least I have them now!! puttputt56

No not yet. I ran into a little problem, I have to remove my hard top to be able to remove the factory roll bar padding and cover. Can't get to the bolts that hold the speakers/light bar etc so I can remove the padding cover. I do have the first bar painted (rear cross bar) and ready to install. I will stamp the other two with a D & P to mark them for where they go. Right now they are marked with just a paint mark. So when I paint them I will know what side they go on!! Guess I am going to have to build an A Frame or buy one so I can remove the top. Can't do it in the garage, can't drive the Jeep inside to tall with the roof rack on. Then the ceiling of the garage isn't high enough to raise it (have a finished garage/ceiling is covered). puttputt56

Well I did it the old fashion way, I lifted it with my head and back, placed a 2x4 under the back portion of the top and the tub. Then lifted the front portion up and also placed a 2x4 between the top and the center cross bar of the roll bar. All that gave me enough room to install the new bars and remove the factory padding and cover material. The instructions didn't really tell you where to place the back bar so I installed it a little too low and will later raise it up about 2" more. I got everything back together and the two doors now fit better than before, especially the drivers side. I removed the two aluminum metal strips that I installed when it had a soft top on it. Don't need them anymore so removed them, I also installed two additional locating pins at the rear of the top. Pictures of the bars will becoming I hope soon when my son get here after work. puttputt56

Well I did get the pictures of the additional bolt in bars taken but my son hasn't posted them yet. I also started another little project on the Jeep. I am fabricating a plate to weld to the front arched bar and also have a mounting point in it to mount a 2.5 gal. Air Tank (Between the arched bar and the wench). I have already installed a air outlet on the bumper but I have two bolts that goes through the bumper so will have to figure a way to seal those before the bumper can also be used as an air tank. Yes I have taken pictures but hopefully my son will post them for me. So he has two little projects to post for me now!! puttputt56

Thanks son for posting those pictures. I guess I had removed the roll bar pictures and put those on the computer since I didn't see them on this post (guess they aren't on the camera chip anymore).
I still have to install the small air tank on its mounting plate, do some more plumbing and seal the bumper for the additional air tank and it will be ready to operate. puttputt56

Still working on the air system on the Jeep. Actually got the air hose/air tank hooked up to the small air compressor, just need to hook it up to a power connection. Also started the re-modification of the rear basket, got the welding done and now to do some grinding and painting and it should be done. Also received an 800 watt power inverter that I am going to install in the Jeep (not sure yet as to the location yet) but I am thinking under the dash on the passenger side or under the passenger side seat. Also got on order a steel plate that protects the lower part of the radiator that is to arrive Tuesday. Just another Jeep project. puttputt56

Received the protection plate for the Jeeps radiator and have it installed already. I did alot of grinding on the rear basket this morning, painted it and now it is installed back on the Jeep. I also made a mounting bracket for the Inverter and will install it tomorrow, location will be on the cowling over the transmission on the passenger side. It will be high enough to clear your feet yet still have good access to the switch and 110 plug-ins. Now to run the electrical lines for both the inverter and the air compressor. Will get a fused tie-in connection so they can be isolated from the other electrical power connections. puttputt56

Installed the outside battery terminals yesterday, installed the new battery termainal connections on the battery. Still have to connect the inverter (not sure how I will go through the firewall yet)& install an islolation switch & not sure of its location either (getting very crowded around the battery location now!! I also install an isolation switch for the inside dome lights (works great). puttputt56

You may want to post in the tech section and ask, I think Kendall or Primergrey what kind of bulkhead electrical fitting they got ... I'm pretty sure one of those two posted about it, I just can't find it ... it was a cool heavy duty fitting to tap electrical from under the hood to inside the cab. I looked around at MadElectrical, which is where I thought they got it, but can't find it there either

Sam they changed the dates on us and I couldn't go! Swamp Lake was still closed so they went to Coyote Lake/Red Lake. They had 8 vehicles and spent 2 nights up there. 4 started on Friday and 4 more showed up on Saturday.
I am adding a 3"x 60" PVC Tube to my Jeep's Roof Rack to carry a few Tarp Poles (4). I also changed out the 2 Large Round Lights on the front bumper bars to two 3" x 6" Driving Lights. Can see a little better now, the others were in the way of my sight line. puttputt56

Had to modify the PVC tuble location. Had to move it to the rear of the basket. Which made for a better location and was able to add a third mounting point. The other location I would have broken the back window when opening the swing out tire/basket rack (didn't notice that at first). Live and learn guess I am not to old to learn somethings!! puttputt56

Well I fabricated a bracket to help support the hard top and roof rack to the roll bar center double bars and storage area. I had installed a 1" x 1/8" steel strap across the enter top in hopes that would give it some support, but it didn't help while driving over wash board roads (rack would vibrate to much). So now it is really secured and hope this will stop the vibration. I also made a second PVC tube to install under the first one. Now will have enough storage for the adjustable steel poles. puttputt56

Got the second PVC 3" Tube installed under the first one now. Now each has three adjustable aluminum poles stored in them. Yes I have taken pictures of both the support bracket and the two PVC Storage tubes. Now to just get my son to post them is going to be the hard part. He is way behind on all my pictures of the things I have done on the Jeep. puttputt56

I got my Christmas present early yesterday. I received my new upper half doors with sliding glass windows. Have them installed already and love them. Even the wife likes them. I also installed the second water bottle holder on the passenger side roll bar (now have one on each side). Been working on the trailer project and it is coming along a little faster now. I installed two new shocks and made a sway bar for it, to make it more stable when I camp/sleep in it. Still have alot of welding to do, the top is mostly done, just a few minor things to tweek it! Got the rear slide locking pins installed now the top will stay on. puttputt56
