I got it from Reid Supply Company, I ordered it and also got their catalog (very large catalog too); which has alot of great items in it for fasteners etc. If I were to order another one I would up grade to the larger more heavy duty one. But it costs 3 times what I paid for the first one. www.ReidSupply.com (phone number is 800-253-0421).

Looking good Ken. Nice link, I bookmarked it, looks like a lot of good stuff there. Ok, OK - now that you have that tire rack done, are you going to go out and get us some pig meat or what ...

As a matter of fact, I hope to go hunting Saturday afternoon. I was working real hard today to get it as ready as I can in such a shoort time. I installed a 5# fire extinguisher in it today, installed 2 back up lights just below the top rack (underneath), I installed the high lift jack on the back side of the swing rack also today. I removed the back seat and bought a large took box and got it in the rear area and full of tools. I still have to install or at least have a shovel in the vehicle before I can go on the ranch. I am at a later time will install a racing seat that I have in the rear but well raise it so the hunter in the back can see over the front two.
By all the signs this week end is the perfect time to hunt, so will make the best of it.
But first thing tomorrow I will take the old tires and rims to the local 4wd Store they are having a parking lot swap meet so will try to sale those and a few other rims I have. puttputt56

Well I am back, the parking lot swap meet was a bust. The main store didn't send them out the damaged products and I was the only one there with any items for sale. So brought it all back to the house unload that and started loading the Jeep for the hunting trip. I made time to install the lights you sent me. Got a couple of pictures but I see Joey didn't post them for me. Hopefully some time this week since Monday is a Holiday for the Postal Service. So I got up to the cabin/lodge around 2:30 pm and 4 others were there. Two left to go home so I helped them load up their stuff and then they left. The other two were still out hunting. I zeroed my rifle in and then went out by myself (I know that is a no no) but I wanted to get in some time looking around. I did see 3 2x2s but they weren't big enough for me. So I went out again this morning before the weather turned bad and saw several more bucks the biggest being a 3x2 still not big enough, only saw one pig and again he was to small. Then the rain came so I got out of there before I really got in trouble. I didn't have chains with me. The other two had already left for home by the time I got back to the cabin. So I cleaned it up, secured it and left. Overall I had a good time, worked the Jeep a little, got it dirty and it preformed the way I wanted it too. I left the top on and only took the top portions of the doors off until it started to rain then put them back on. I am going up again next week end. Wish you could have been with me Mark, you would have seen some good country and lots of deer. puttputt56

Well lets see now the bumpers are made out of 4"x 6" box tubing with the 6" laying flat so 6" plus 4" from the stock cross over tubing so 10" plus for the front and about the same for the back. Or about 3-1/2" farther out than the stock bumpers. You got to remember this is a hunting rig not a rock crawler. I am not worried about approach or departure angles as I would be if that is what it was to be used for; I need area's for carrying things. Plus they are stout enough to scrape a little if needed. The front will carry the ice chest (they have to have their beer you know). The back will carry the deer/pig or both. puttputt56

There is alot of room between the ice chest and the radiator, and I don't drink they do and I am the driver. All 18 vehicles have their ice chests mounted in the front and some even have a winch there too and they haven't had a heating problem for over 20 years. I know all but two of them for over 40 years and feel safe with each and everyone of them. puttputt56

Here are the pictures of the KC lights I got from OldmanRam ...
Have you tried them out yet? and did they clean-up Ok for ya? I have two on the front bumper with two pin point lights also (PO put them on) ... the pin point lights shine straight ahead, and I have the big ones turned just a bit toward each side of the road, really lights up the world when on a dark trail ... although you can also watch the volt meter drop I also have true German made Hella sealed beam type head lights (PO again,) even though he didn't put them on relays (something I still have to do,) they are the brightest head lights I have on any of my rigs. I still have more of these lights, so I'm going to put one on each windshield post ... got some cool polished ss brackets I put there also

Mark they cleaned up just fine thanks, but I haven't hooked them up electrically yet. Same with the back two lights too. I will run all the electrical lines at the same time and they will be in that flex shielding material. I will also install them with in line relays and a main fuse. I did connect them to a electrical source to make sure they worked and they past that test. I also need to re-connect the third brake line too but I have to relocate its location and I think I know where that is going to be but haven't installed the light yet.I installed two red two way reflector at each corner of the top rack last Friday before I left to go hunting and by the way I bagged a 4x3 buck early Sunday morning; it field dressed at 130 lbs.(got pictures of the antlers hopefully Joey will post them for me tonight after he gets off work. Now for the pig. Saturday the fog moved in and we couldn't see 20 feet in front of us until late that evening. The buck was only 5 minutes (0630 in the morning)from the cabin/lodge.puttputt56.

I also made a small box (2) and installed them on each door side by the seats. They are made out of 7.62 NATO ammo boxes that I cut in half lengthwise then installed an edge protector on the edges. So they are about 4.5" deep and 12" long. I needed a place for small items, like ammo, knife, range finder, etc. I took pictures of those too so hopefully when Joey comes for Thanksgiving he will post them for me.puttputt56

Your welcome! I saw a buck about that size yesterday on the way home running along the side of the road. He was just south of the end of the school soccer fields. Just before you turn right and go up and over the overpass.

Well I have been working on the rifle rack. I have it almost ready to install. I put the rifles in it yesterday to see how they fit. I have one problem, which I will correct later today. If I want to be able to put the rifles in both ways (scope facing in or out) I will have to cut a notch in the main up right shaft to clear the bolt actions of the rifles. No big deal but will have to re-enforce that area because that is where I cut a 2" hole to remove some weight on the rack (several holes were cut in the length of the up right) and that is where the bolts hit. Of course they will be pictures coming. I also am still working on the box tray that will go on top of the dash, it is coming along just fine too. puttputt56

Eric basically the rifle rack is going (for now) to be located just behind the center console, so it is toward the rear of the front seats. I have to do something so I don't ride around with the rifle sitting on the passenger seat and maybe falling off and hitting something. It is going to force me to take my time and get out before getting the rifle, which by law I need to do anyway. I haven't got to the modifications to the upright shaft yet, had to many errands to run today, but will do it tomorrow for sure. puttputt56

Here are those pictures I said would be coming of the rifle rack and box/tray for the dash: Here is the rifle rack with out the mounting base plate. Same as the first one just a little different angle Box/tray for the dash the next five pictures, the box is made from the existing rear bumper that came off the jeep. It is 50" long x 4"wide and is 3.5" deep. The right side has the most area of use where as the left side has the dash gauge cluster cut out and the dash tray area is cut out too so it can be used also. Both lids are lockable. This one is of the rack and the base plate. The base plate will stay in the vehicle and the rack can be removed. The rack can be at different angles too (leaning forward or to the rear). Again thank you son (Joey) for posting these for me. After I make the modifications to the rack and install it I will have more pictures. puttputt56

Well I will be out testing the rifle rack tomorrow. I am going hunting again and we are supposed to be getting our first winter storm for the next three days. I have made the modifications to the tow bar, so that is ready to use. I have installed the new seat covers and installed the bottle opener on the front bumper. I also mounted the Mag light and holders just in front of the drivers side front seat. I am going after that VW size pig that I have been seeing this trip, wish me luck!! puttputt56 (pictures will be coming)

Well I really tested the old Jeep out over the last couple of days. I drove off road for 71 miles the first day and 46 miles the second day. I even took it were I shouldn't have. Being that I was by myself. I did a lot of scrapping of rocks and thought it was the rear bumper, but it turned out to be the gas tank skid plate. It has a lot of marks on it but no real damage to it. Well the rifle rack holds of rifles and that is all that is good about it. I will be re-thinking (designing it) it just takes way to long to get it out, especially with the soft top on. So my rifle road around on the passenger side seat again. The weather stayed great until last night just as I was coming home. I am not sure if we got any snow up there or not. The other hunters were going after their deer and I was looking for that VW size pig. As usual they saw all the pigs and I saw all the deer. So no one got anything. They are staying the week end since deer season is over on the 9th and the pig-a-rama starts next week on the ranch. One week for the South half of the Ranch and one week for the North half. So a 3" suspension lift kit is coming next. Hopefully Santa (Mrs.Claus) will be good to me!! I have been good!! puttputt56

Just an up date on some of the progress or lack of on the Jeep. I have installed the new seat covers (pictures coming), made another bracket for the rear bumper (support bracket) have not installed it yet though. I am having second thoughts on installing the box/tray on the dash or until at least I figure out how I am going to do the rifle rack, still working on that. I still need to run wiring for all the new lights and the master isolation switch I have to install. During the SEMA Show I found a manufacture of Full Traction Suspension there and they are based here in Bakersfield. I talked to them for over an hour and I just went to their warehouse and took a tour through it. They gave me a real good quote for a 3" lift with gas shocks, so hopefully Mrs. Claus will be delivering that on Xmas Day. Got my fingers crossed. They gave me the instruction package already so have been going through that so I will be ready when Mrs. Claus delivers the packaged kit to me on Xmas Morning. I will post pictures of that when I can!! puttputt56

Thanks for the input on your full traction suspension lift. As I said I liked the walk thru that they gave me at their warehouse and manufacturing place. I liked the display that they had at the SEMA show and have gotten other good comments about them. I am still hoping Mrs. Claus comes through for me if not Santa himself will take care of it for sure. puttputt56

Well I got enough money from Mrs. Claus to buy the lift kit for the Jeep. I just called them and they are putting the package together right now, so will go pick it up in an hour. So one more project will be in the works now. Hopefully it will go real smooth. I have read the instruction about three times, they look easy so hopefully they will be. Had to replace ball joints in my son's Toyota Pickup over the last two days. They were making a very loud noise. So replaced the left side first, which stopped the noise. So yesterday replaced the right side too. They were not as bad as the left side but were starting to show wear. With 150,000 miles plus and him running it with out shocks on the front I guess it was time. Don't ask why he doesn't have shocks on the front. That is another story. puttputt56

Well I got the lift kit, I have gone through it and put the decals and rubber boots on the shocks. Went through and checked all the parts. I did finally get the third brake light hooked up and re-located to the carrying rack today. So that project is done. Now on to the lift kit tomorrow I guess(if the weather holds good). I measured all the fender well opening and right now they are all within 1/4" of each other. The front bumper though is 3" higher than the rear bumper. Hopefully the new springs and gas shocks will help level it out some (front to rear). puttputt56 Pictures will follow!!

Here are the pictures I promised of the Jeeps progress etc. This is a picture of the front bumper with the bottle opener installed This is of the new seat covers installed, they are black w/ tan inserts This is where I installed the existing third brake light after modifying it(had to cut it down a lot This is one of the rear brackets that I made to help support the rear bumper, I still have to drill about 3 holes yet on both sides This is where I mounted the mag light, just in front of the drivers seat. Windshield with full traction decal installed This is the 3" full traction suspension lift kit laid out and ready for installation Again thank you son for posting these for me!! puttputt56

Well I started the lift kit installation today. I got the rear portion and the transfer case/transmission skid plate lowering blocks in today. So I have just the front end to do now. Yes I have a few pictures of its progress and hopefully Joey will post them for me. This was supposed to be a 3" lift kit but so far it is more than that. I am hoping it will level out more toward the 3" at the end. Right now it is almost 4-1/4" higher on both sides of the rear end than when I started. I measured from the fender well opening to the ground. Before the lift it was 32-3/4" now it is right at 37". Hope it will settle down a little. I don't want to have to replace the rear drive line too. The work so far has gone fairly easy with just a few trouble spots but all in all pretty easy. Again I am doing this by myself and it is getting harder for me at my age to move around with out some body part saying your getting to old for this kind of work. As usual had a few good (bad) words at a point or two into this. I think the front end will be easier at least I got my fingers cross that is will be.

Thanks Ramitupurs84 I am trying. I didn't get to it today. I had yard work to do, the wind blow over one of my large trees in the front yard so had to cut it up and clean up that mess. I gave about a 1/3 of a cord of wood to the neighbor for him letting me use his utility trailer to haul the limbs away. Joey was to tired to help me with the installation of the front end (he went to work at 4 am this morning) so will do it later on. We still are going to be getting more rain and wind so as soon as that has passed us I'll get on the front end and install that portion of the kit. Well have pictures of that too later. puttputt56

Looking good Ken ... hope your springs don't fall out like Emperordave's did And these Kali storms are really sucking aren't they .... I spent all day today, plowing and shoveling, and blowing snow .... Yesterday the power was out here for 16 hours ....

Yes these storms do make it a little rough but we need them badly and we are (at least where I am) not really hit that hard.
Yes I too hope they don't fall out too. I really can't see how they would unless the lower control arm/s broke then I could see how they could but that would be my least of the problem.
It rained some more last night, but not like they have been predicting, it looks like the mountain might be getting more than here in the valley. puttputt56!

Well I still haven't got to the front end to install that portion of the lift. I thought I would get back early this morning from the hunting trip; but that didn't happen. We went back out this morning because the weather was perfect and we saw over 100 pigs yesterday. We saw over 200 today by 10:30 am. I finally got my pig at 10:30 am this morning. It is not the VW size that I was trying to get, but it is the largest taken so far this season. He weighed out at 260 pounds, was over 5.5 feet long and stood 32" tall. I know this isn't the section for this, but will have pictures posted tomorrow when Joey gets off work. Now I can start on the front end of the Jeep. puttputt56

Well I started on the front portion of the lift kit today. I got the new springs, shocks, sway bar quick connects installed. I still have to drill out the axle locating bar mounting hole ( enlarge it to 1/2") and I'll install that tomorrow. Then of coarse take it to have the alignment checked. The front springs were allot harder to install than the rear. I had to use two spring compressors to get them to go between the springs location pads. I put the tires back on and lowered it back down to the ground (drive way) to check the height of the front. It came out better than I thought it was going to be. I'll have pictures coming soon. Joey will post them for me either Saturday or Monday after he gets off work. I also bought a CB antenna and installed it on the passenger side on the rear carrying rack. CB will either be my old 25 channel or I will buy a new 40 channel, I haven't made up my mind yet. We use hand held Walkie Talkies for hunting ( while we are out walking around) and use them if we need help or if we see anything going their way. puttputt56

I completed the installation of the front axle locater bar and it is now ready to go to the alignment shop. I drove it about 12 miles today with no problems. I even took out on the freeway at freeway speeds. Seems to handle just fine. I can tell it is raised up. I would not want to go any higher. Maybe some 33" tires (with more aggressive tire tread) but that will be much later on. The front sits a little higher than the rear but not to bad. I like the looks of its stance. Now on to the rifle rack (re-design), CB (installation) and hooking up all the added lights.Yes I took pictures maybe tomorrow Joey can post them for me. puttputt56
