Man that Jeep is one of a kind is it almost to your complete liking? Also those pictures of the ranch are those that one could just sit in a lawn chair, binoculars and a canopy.

Those pigs are 105 lbs and 110lbs. The one my dad got was 280 lbs This one is actually an elk but is not real its a bronze statue. All other shots are real

I was going to say send that picture into nation geographic.
Now since its a private ranch do you have pull a lincense or hows that work for harvesting hogs?

Yes you need to purchase tags for each pig, deer, etc. You can see the green tags in the photos of the two pigs. Some memberships come with one or two tags and additional tags are extra. Here's the website for Tejon Ranch's Hunting Program http://hunttejon.com/

Thanks son for posting those for me. That picture of the new pond is just 20 yards to the west of the cabin. The idea is a good one but we think it is going to fail on the west bank. That pond is 42' deep. The pond also took away a lot of the view from the cabin down into the canyon too. The Ranch has 5 of those Bronze Elk located in the proposed housing development. (been proposed for over 35 years now). The Ranch has two of the cabins (they are mirror of each other) and we had access to one of them for 8 years. They didn't re-new our lease so we will loose the rights to use the cabin. I guess they will now use them for the Group Pig Hunts. My son takes some assume pictures doesn't he.

I am going back on the Ranch this Saturday to take my Sister-in-law and her family on a tour. My wife will be going also, this will the first time in 35 plus years that my wife has been on the Ranch.
My brother-in-law will be bring his Jeep (flat fender model) and they will be in that one and myself and wife will be in mine.
We will only get to see about 1/4 of Ranch in one day and that will be on the main roads. I will take them in to see the cabin and then do a little offroading. Will have a lot of country to cover in a short time. This will be their last and only time that they will be able to get on the Ranch at least with me. I know they would not pay the fees to be able to get on the Ranch on their own.
I will take more pictures if we see some more animals etc. puttputt56

I got a little ahead of myself with the dash tray yesterday. I went and painted it before I finished welding the mounting brackets to it (the collar clamps). But I just had to see how it would look. Still have to add edging trim and rubber or cloth material on the tray so it won't make noise when things are in it/on it. I did weld two small tabs on the sides with eye hooks so I can use a small bungee cord to hold things in place. Of course pictures will be coming soon. The sides were a little hard for me to bend (right) but I finally got it done and I think it turned out OK. It will be functional and that was the whole point for making the dash tray. There will still be room below it to use the existing dash tray for small things but won't be as secure as the new tray (things fall off it now and it will still do that). puttputt56

Picture one is of the tray after bending and welding the lip on the tray. Picture of the tray with the eye bolts and tabs installed. Afterwards I removed them and installed them just inside of the tray. Didn't like the look of them on the out side think they look cleaner on the inside. Picture of the Club Decals which I belong, but I have installed one more just under the X for Calif. 4x4 Offroad Association that I installed after taking these pictures. The California RCC Chapter decal is on a magnet material so can remove it as needed. Picture of tray after painting it, then I removed those tabs and welded the 2 piece collars @ the two far ends to mount it on the dash cross bar. The next two pictures are of the tray installed on the dash cross bar, the pictures didn't come out as good as I wanted them too so will take some more from inside looking at it from the drivers seat. Hopefully that will give you a beter idea of how it looks. Joey thank you for posting these for me, I will have some more after this week end of the tray and of the site seeing trip on the Ranch. puttputt56

Here I tried to take a better picture of the tray more head on. Then one of my binoculars in it. I hope these show it a little better. Thanks Joey for posting these for me. He will be posting the one that I took on the Ranch on the California Board. He is taking the CD that my wife had made when she had pictures made at Costco. puttputt56

On that last trip on the Ranch were I took my wife, that was really the first time she had really ridden in it since I got the Jeep (at least offroad wise). I think she got a little uneasy a few times as she is very short (5'-2") and can't see out over the dash to see the road. A couple of times I couldn't see the road either because it was steep and the road broke off at the top. She used all the grab handles that I have installed and the ones that came with the Jeep. All in all she did have a great time. My wife is the one that took all the pictures that is why she is not in any of the pictures posted.

Well today I did a little work or I should say I bought a Hard Top for my Jeep. I think I got a fairly good deal, since I only paid $350.00 for it. I also traded the soft top and got his Bikini top in return. It has the vents on the sides, tinted windows, rear windshield wiper and rear defroster. The only problem that I can see so far is that I am going to have to redo my basket on the rear tire carrier. It is to close and I am afraid it might hit. The soft top at the rear was sloped more than the Hard Top so it is a little to close. It is tan in color and at some point I will paint it black to match the upper half doors. It has been hanging in his shop for 8 years so it is almost new. I need to get the quick release bolts for it so I can remove it quickly. The most important part is my wife loves the Hard Top plus it made it a quieter vehicle inside now too. Pictures will be following. puttputt56

Thanks son for posting those pictures for me!! I have since modified the tire rack and basket on the rear of the Jeep. I had to more the basket reward so there was more room between it and the rear Hard Top Glass. I had to use a cherry picker to lift it off and then used the plasma cutter to cut the 7 attachment points (basket to the tire carrier) plus remove all the wiring to all the electrical items on the tire carrier. I have reinstalled the modified basket/tire carrier now I just have to rewire everything back up. Now I have about 4-5" of clearance now. I didn't take any picture of the process but will have pictures of the finished project. Sorry about that part, once I got started I didn't stop until it was done. Again for the reason for having to do this is the soft top sloped more than the Hard Top and the soft top was more forgiving if the basket came into contact with it than the glass would be. puttputt56

hey Ken, nice purchase on the hard top. always good to keep the missus happy with the play toys, eh?
i saw that you said you were going to paint the top black. was wondering if you had possibly considered a spray or roll on type bed liner like Durabak or Herculiner or similar. i think the black would match up well with the doors and still leave the top textured a bit but provide a bit more scratch and ding protection than paint. of course the drawback to it is that if you do ding it up it is a bit harder to repair than paint.
also kind of a bummer you had to re-locate and re-wire the basket but knowing you it is every bit as good as where it was before if not better.
one last thing, i forgot and havent went back over to the Moab topic to look, but is this the rig you are bringing down?

Yes I have considered using a bedliner type paint to paint the Hard Top Black. If I do I'll get the UV protection paint also, don't want it to fade to grey!!
So far the modifications to the basket look great, just have to connect all the electrical stuff back up which I don't think will be to bad. I will change the back up camera on how the antenna is routed hoping that will inprove the signal better.
I really haven't made up my mind if I am going to drive the Jeep or my Tundra to Moab. Joey told me he is bring a couple of fire arms and if he does that I will more than likely drive the Tundra just for more security. The Hard Top now on the Jeep does give it a little more security than the soft top did. Plus we will have more room in the Tundra than the Jeep. If I take the Tundra I will rent a Jeep in Moab for sight seeing and off roading.
Hope that answered all your questions. What ever I drive to there we will both be there and that is the most important side of all this. puttputt56

Hard top looks great Ken, and a good deal on it. My hard top hasn't been back on since the first day I brought the Heep home ... my wife likes going topless Mine has the fiberglass texture already, so I'm just going to paint it with some good quality paint, it's a top so not to to worried about it getting beat up... will only be used during the winter. Ken, if you are going to rent a Jeep, I would advise you to decide now, and reserve it now ... I rented mine last week ... I rented mine from Farabees again, they still had Jeeps to rent, but they go fast, this is a popular time of year in Moab, (cooler weather.) The lady asked me if something was going on that weekend that she might want to know about .... I rented mine for Friday and Saturday, with an option for Sunday, they didn't seem to care that much about Sunday, since most people bring them back on Sunday .... Keep in mind, that when you add all things up it costs pretty much $200 a day to rent Oh, and BTW the way if you reserve early, and let them know, you can pick up the Jeep the night before with no extra charge (after 5:00,) that's what I'm doing ... just easier that way

Thanks Mark for the information on renting a Jeep there. I guess I will make up my mind now and call them. It looks like I'll only need one for Saturday depending on when we get there. But will reserve it for Friday and Saturday. Thanks again Mark.
On the top I have ordered the quick release clamps for it. I will be building another basket for the top and some type of attachment points to lift it off with. Those clamps should arrive today by the tracking number I have for them. With three people it is not hard to remove and with two it can be done fairly ease too. puttputt56

More pics: Picture of the clearance I gained after basket moved reward. Picture of the chock block with the better tie down to hold it in place. I also had to move them reward so the right side one wouldn’t hit the Hard Top when fully opened. Basket from the right side to show clearance. Front of Jeep before the bug/rock deflector installed. Front of Jeep with new deflector installed. Head on picture of deflector installed Right side of Basket with shovel remounted and still have plenty of clearance from the glass. Rear picture of the tire carrier with the new back up lights installed. Left side rear I was trying to get the Moab Sticker that was on the Hard Top I installed but it didn’t turn out very well. This was the back yard project that I had to complete before I could continue with the Jeep projects. Same picture but looking from the opposite direction. This is a picture of the electrical switch panel I installed, the last picture I took of it didn’t have the light installed or the electrical rubber switch protectors installed.

I know how we all love pictures. Thanks again Son!! Looks like you must be feeling alot better now. I hope it continues so we can go to Moab!! puttputt56

Well we make it home from Moab, Utah. My son talked me into driving Hell's Revenge in my Jeep. It made it without any damage or scratches. Thanks to the help of Mark (Oldmanram) I followed him in his rented Jeep. We had a great turnout of RCC members (15 or 16 vehicles).
There were about four vehicles that had a few problems but all came out OK. Mad Max had a couple of electrical issues (electrical fans, sensor unit died), one had the front drive shaft come off, one Dodge truck had the most problems ( fan hitting the shroud, steering shaft kept coming off, fuel leak and finally his alternator froze up) and one blow a tire.
That was just on Hell's Revenge I don't know how things went on the other runs they made.
Joey and I did sight seeing the rest of the trip, I took 132 pictures he took over 1,500 so it will be a while before he gets those sorted out and posted. puttputt56

Thanks Son for posting those pictures (Moab 2008 Trip, Hell's Revenge). I think I even said that sooner than that!! The one shot he took of me inside the jeep I was eating and had just put a chip in my mouth. The one where I was cleaning the windshield was on HWY 128 leaving Moab, I was cleaning it so Joey could take pictures through the windshield. There were so many bugs on that HWY his camera would not focus because of the bugs on the windshield. Thanks again son!! puttputt56

I added a 6" x 1-1/2" Dia. pipe to the rear basket (just left of my third brake light) for a umbrella holder. After going to Moab last month I found out that there isn't really any shade to be had there. So during our lunch break it was hot. So now I will always take the umbrella with me and if needed will have a place to mount it. I'll take a picture and have my son post that for me as well.
The Mopar Club here locally that I belong had a run last night to Sonic, since the NHRA Reunion Drag race is this weekend there were a lot of cars at sonic. There were 11 cars/trucks from the club that showed up at Sonic.
Next week end the Jeep Club will be at the local Jeep Dealership (they invided us as a club) for an open house and bar-b-que. That should be fun also. puttputt56

Funny funny there Mark!!!! You know as we get older we need all the comforts that we can get. The other project I am working is I am taking and old upright piano and modifying it (gutted it) to use as a desk and reloading work station. I had to cut about 15" off the top and replace the top lid back on and make an area for the desk portion where the keys used to be. I added a 20" sq. x 1/4" steel plate to mount the reloading press. It had been painted white and I am sanding all that off and that is taking forever. I was afraid to use any type of liquid paint remover was afraid it might damage some of the veneer. So far it is I think turning out OK and will serve its intended purpose. It will go where my drafting desk is now (in my office) and I will take the drafting desk out and put that in storage or give it away to someone just starting into drafting. It is a commercial type drafting desk 4' deep by 7' long (it adjusts up and down and the angle can also be adjusted, it has a draw on the right side under the table and a tray across the entire front of the desk top, so if anyone would like it they can have it if you come and get it. No charge. 17 years it cost $400.00 and there isn't anything wrong with it. puttputt56

Thanks son for posting those. The umbrella and mount isn't anything new (not a new idea) welders have been doing this to their welding rigs of ever. But I just haven't seen it done on a Jeep and I think it will work out great on those hot days with no trees around. puttputt56

I started another project for the Jeep. I started cutting some 1/2" box tubing today to make a rack for the Hard Top. It is going to be 48" long x 35" wide and 4-1/2" deep. I got everything cut and ready to weld up. The front portion of the rack will be angled for wind deflection. All corners will be at 90 degrees (No bending on this project). Of course I will have pictures of the layout and the finished product as I go along. Again I hope my son will post them for me so you all can see them. puttputt56

I just stumbled on to your thread today I don't know how I missed it. Great job on the Jeep!! I love how the cage bolts togother. I might borrow the idea for my ram attachment point on my tie rod. The ranch looks GREAT!! Thanks for sharing.

Jungle, No problem glad you are enjoying my post. I do it so others might use or get ideas of their own and start their own projects. I just wish I could post the pictures myself but I have to let my son do that for me. I have always like making things and saving money in the process. puttputt56

Thanks son for posting those pictures for me! The rack is about 95% done but I am still going to add two more front angle pieces to it before the welding portion is over. I will also be adding some 1/2" X 2" or 3" Long pieces on the bottom of it to raise it off the roof top (a 1/2") and about four those will be my mounting points (at each corner) 3 down each side and 3 down two of the center runs. Then on the angle portion I will add a sheet of aluminum across the front and angle portion of the sides.
The picture of my desk/reloading station is of the modified upright piano that I just built and still working on it. But it is coming along great and I am already using it as a desk. Still have a few items to make for it (metal door at bottom shelf area and the two outer edges will get a piece of 1/8" x 2" x 35" metal strips).

One of my long time friend had it and had all ready gutted it and was going to now cut it up for fire work. He asked me if I would like it and I said yes, I would try and make a desk out of it. I had to cut off the top portion (about 15") so it would fit in the location in my office I wanted to locate it. Then I had to start sanding it, someone else had painted it white and it looked bad. So that was the hard part. I did use chemical paint remover on the two legs because that was easier than sanding them. I added larger legs (feet) to it and added new wood to the back and sides. I think when it is finished with the items I still need to complete it will serve me well, plus the price was right (no cost for the piano). Sorry about this portion of the post not being about Jeeps. puttputt56

A friend and coworker of my wife had a garage sale this past Saturday and I took the Drafting Table over there and it sold. So it is gone and I got a little money for it ($50.00). One thing less I have to store.
I almost have the Hard Top Rack finished. I painted it today and will paint my Hard Top too before installing it. I think it will work out just fine for me. It should give me a little more room to put things when I go on some long trips etc. Plus now I will have lift points to hang the top from when I take it hunting and want the top off. puttputt56

Thanks!! Well today is the trip to Las Vegas for the SEMA Show, we will leave when Joey gets off work. Hopefully he will have a light mail load today and we can get an early start (about a 4.5 hours trip). I will be off the RCC site for a week while in Vegas. See you when we get back!! puttputt56

Good question but I made it back OK without any withdraws. The SEMA Show was great as always but it was down from last years turnout. That was good and bad. The good part was it wasn't as crowded as it has been in the past so we could see more without being pushed around and could get some really good pictures this time (Joey took almost 1,300 plus pictures I believe). The bad part was for the vendors, they didn't have as many customers to talk to as they have had in the past. I will have some figures later on as to the turnout numbers etc. There were just right at 2,000 vendors and I would estimate 100,000 visitors (down from 150,000 last year). We didn't go to the AAPEC show this year, we stayed at the SEMA Show the whole time.
Hopefully later on Joey will have all the pictures posted up on a site that everyone can view. Plus the SEMA eNews Letter will have a photo section each week and you will be able to view those too. Those pictures will be better as the photo's on that are taken before any visitors are allowed in so they have each booth to themselves.
I did get allot of stuff, but not as much as in the past. My truck wasn't as full as it has been in the past. I did get more decal/stickers this year than in the past though!! Didn't get as many free samples as before but that is just the times now. We that is a little up date and I will have a few more pictures of the Top Rack for my Jeep as I continue to add a few things/additions to it. puttputt56
