That wasn't the only time I was thinking things through at the SEMA show. There was allot of things to see and ponder.
I started on the electrical today, got the fog lights hooked up (they work). I got the fuse block install on the fire wall. I enlarged that hole for the license plate light for the switch panel. The first switch is for that light, the second is for the fog lights, the third is for the back up/work lights, the fourth is for the KC lights, the fifth and six are extra at this point. The CB will be directly connected to the battery (with its own circuit breaker). I added a second light under the hood, I just need to hook up the electrical to it and it will have its own switch & fuse. puttputt56

Well today I got the back up lights connected and they are working great.  Now I can really see while backing up at night; if someone is just a little to close I can hit them with the lights. Now that I got those hooked up I know how to route the CB Antenna Cable it will be very easy. puttputt56

Well today I got the electrical hooked up to the CB Radio, then after lunch I got the new antenna and spring and installed it, connected and routed the antenna cable and now it all works. So now I have just the KC lights to hook up and I will have those projects completed.

Will be going to the Clay Shoot early in the morning, then after that is over will be heading for the cabin for a 2-1/2 day hunting trip. It looks like we will be getting wet and maybe even some snow at the cabin again. Not sure how the Clay shoot will go.  My brother will be picking me up at 6 am and we will meet the team members for breakfast on him I might add.

Well have pictures of the completed projects after this week end is over. puttputt56!!

I am back from the hunting trip. It didn't start off to good. I got home from the Clay Shoot (which I didn't do that well), I loaded the Jeep and it wouldn't start. I guess for those two days that I was working on it to hook up the electrical and leaving the hood, and doors open I must have run the battery down. There are only three lights inside and two under the hood.  They were on for 8 to 9 hours each day. I should have started it each day but didn't. It didn't take much of a jump to get it going.

The second thing I found out on the trip was it would not stay in 4-wheel low range.  I had fixed the shift lever (transmission) but I didn't even think about the transfer case lever. I did get around fairly well in just high range, but it limited me on some of the places I could go where I needed the low range to help hold it back. The roads were pretty muddy but was able to keep my speed up enough to get from point A to point B OK.  I did see allot of pigs and just a few deer the first day and the second day saw even more.  The wind was terrible and I even got up at 2 am to move the Jeep to make sure if one of the oak trees near the cabin would have fellen over it would not hit the Jeep.

I think fixing the transfer case lever opening (enlarge it making it just about 1/2" longer should do the trick at least that is what I am hoping for). puttputt56

I got time yesterday and removed the front portion of the center console and modified the Transfer case lever opening just a little. Then I modified the bracket that the shift lever follows and helps hold it in its different locations.  I also went under the Jeep and adjusted the top linkage about a 1/4" and hope that all these minor adjustments will do the trick.

I don't like how the two brackets under the Jeep line up.  There is one mounted on the floor board and one mounted on the Transfer Case. When you install the skid plate lowering blocks it drops the transfer case bracket down and miss aligns it from the other.  If my minor mods don't fix the problem I will have to make (design) a bracket modification to either rise one or lower the other. There is a shaft between these two brackets that is the pivot point for the shifting linkage. Has anyone else come across this problem before and if so how did you solve it?? puttputt56

Thanks Bent and Twisted!  Yesterday I went out and went to the three off-road stores and asked this question about the shifting problem.  After doing a lot of resreach there are about 6 companies out there that make something to address this problem. Pricing from as low as $4.00 to as high as $150.00. Some are just brackets that lower or raise one side or the other to bring them back into alignment. A couple even take out one bracket and just use one (one bracket does all).

The thing that has always got to me about modifying something that you buy there is always something that they don't tell you (in the instructions) and you have to do something else to make it work. Since the kit that I bought had the skid plate lowering spacers included in it, it should of had something in the kit to address this or at least said something may have to be done to address linkage mis-alignment.

I ordered the bracket re-location device (floor board mounted bracket) and will see if that works. I haven't taken the Jeep out yet to see if the adjustments I did so far are going to work.

I could take off the bracket mounted on the TC and weld a larger washier on it (off set it) to raise it and re-align the pivot shaft again. puttputt56

Well the part that I ordered came in but I need two of these brackets. They missed reading the parts list. But I will just make one and use the other as a pattern to make it, since it is only a 1-1/2" wide by 5" long piece of strap metal with 4 holes in it. Shouldn't be a big deal. I haven't taken the Jeep anywhere that I would need to put it in 4w low range since I did make some modifications to the above brackets and console and adjusted the linkage a little. I guess I will drive out to the county dump (it is located in the foot hills) and drive a few hills and see if it will stay in 4w low range. puttputt56

Why modify a vehicle under warranty?  Take it to the dealer and make them fix it.

Because the lift kit did not come with the vehicle, so it would not be covered under the warranty. puttputt56

I received the car cover for the Jeep the other day. I put it on yesterday and I like the fit. The only area that it doesn't fix perfectly is the back where the tire rack and basket is. It doesn't cover that area. So it goes between the rack and the back of the Jeep. Kind of forms a V in the back because of the upper mounting point of the rack (tailgate mounting point). I will have pictures later.  I can't do it today, I am leaving for Anaheim Convention Center for the SEMA Off-Road Impact Expo this morning. puttputt56

For those that might be interested, JC Whitney just put that Jeep cover on sale below the sale I got. I paid $89 (normally $129) and now it is on sale for $65.  I like it and so for the price I don't think you can beat it or go wrong.  puttputt56

Well I took the Jeep into the Dealership that I bought it at in Taft.  They jumped right on it and the mechanic that worked on it is also a member of the 4x4 club that I am trying to join. He looked at it and tried to make some linkage adjustments, so thought that had it fixed until we took it out and he put it through its paces (the rolling hills just west of Taft).  Will it did it again so we went back to the shop and he found that the main linkage shaft that goes to the control lever was bent so he replaced that and installed the two lowering brackets I had with me and that solved the problem.  We went back out and he put it through it's paces again and it stayed in low lock the whole time. That lower main linkage is flatten about 1/3 of the total length of the shaft so it is a weak area. With the new one he welded the old one to it and reversed it and put it on the side that was away from the front drive shaft. I thought it was bent so it would clear the front drive shaft.  So hopefully we are good to go again. I only had to pay for 1/2 hour of his labor to install those two lowering bracket I brought with me. I didn't mind that at all, since he worked on it for 3.5 hours, test drove it twice (with me in it with him). puttputt56

Wow thats a pretty good mechanic Ken!  None of the mechanics around here really understand 4x4s and but will take every cent you have!  Glad to hear it's fixed!

I won a Vehicle Back-up Camera (Wireless System with a 3.5" LCD Monitor). I think I am going to install it on the Jeep; since it is hard to see out the back with the tire rack and basket back there.  I won it at one of the organizations I belong to and they have a raffle at each meeting (one of the reasons I go).  I seem to win allot but this is the first item I can really use on the Jeep.  I won a Bar-B-Que last month, and tools on several other times. Now I will try and figure out where to install the camera, then the monitor too.  I will have pictures of course as I get them. The monitor location will take some thought, since I also want to mount a GPS unit too. puttputt56

Well I will try to do this for the second time (post this). I lost it last time. Well I think I will install the camera just right of the brake light on the basket. I will make a protection housing for it first then install the camera.  The monitor well I think for now I will install in that flat area down by the electrical outlets near the floor board.
I am going to the Pomona OffRoad Expo this coming weekend (Saturday the 5th) and come home with some new shoes for the Jeep.  I am looking at a tire size of 32" x 11.5 on some 15 or 16" x 8" Black Steel rims. The tires will be either BF Goodrich, ProComps or DickCepek's) (Mud Terrain T/A  KM style) puttputt56

Well I am back from the Off-Road Expo in Pomona at the Fairplex.  This show wasn't very big at all.  It was the first one that I have gone to this time of the year.  The one in October is about 6 times as big as this one.  I would recommend going to that one instead unless you need something for your rig. We got there about 45 minutes after they opened the gate and we were passing people leaving already.  We thought to ourselves this is not looking good if they are already leaving.(opened at 9am)  We were there until 2 pm, got home about 5 pm.
I did order my 5 tires and rims and saved $80 from the best bid I got here locally. So that was good. I ordered 5- Pro Comp Mud Terrain 32 x 11.5 x 15" and 5- Pro Comp Soft 8 15" x 8" Black Rims.
I will post pictures when I pick them up on Monday, Tuesday at the latest.  puttputt56

270,000 acres. This is just one of two hunting Cabins on Tejon Ranch. The one in the picture is on area 10 which is the hunting Club that I belong to (35,000 acres). The other cabin is in area 8. They are both alike just mirror image of one another. It has a generator for power, sleeps 12 (3 bed rooms two of which sleeps 4 and the third sleeps eight) two bathrooms, kitchen, dining area and living room. There are 24 hunting areas on the ranch. Does that help you?? puttputt56

It is; it is owned by Tejon Ranch Company!! It is the largest continious land owner in the State of California, Meaning all their land is in one piece. It is 68 miles long by 42 miles wide at its most North/South & East/West directions, made up of 4 Spanish Land Grants. puttputt56

I picked up my new tires and wheels late yesterday. So I will be taking pictures and installing them today along with about 10 other things I have to do today.  Hopefully Joey will stop by after work and post the pictures. puttputt56

Those tires nad rims really add to the jeep, it looks real mean, if I wasn't so tied in with my rc I would love to have one real close to that.                           Jamieson

I have to now install the fender flares that I got for it next. That should make it look even better, plus it will cover the new tires so I won't throw mud/cow patties all over the Jeep and passengers.  puttputt56 Cruise Cruise

Well I finally found some time and installed the back up camera on the Jeep; it works!  For now I will not mount the monitor until I get the new dash/windshield roll bar installed (which I haven't bought yet). That way I can mount brackets to the dash bar for the GPS and Back up Camera mount. Pictures coming soon if Joey will post them for me.  puttputt56

I did a little more work on the Jeep before it got to hot today.  I welded some brackets to the basket on the tire carrier to hold the D handle shovel I carry with the Jeep.  It was just laying in the basket with bungee cords holding it in place.  It frees up the basket for other things now.

While doing that I had another thought and I think I will cut out and put a lid on a portion of the rear bumper to make a small storage area. Since the bumper is made out of 4" x 6" box tubing and is 54" long that should give me a nice little storage area to carry rope and or small parts. The opening looks to be about 5" x 24". I will put a rubber seal on the bottom of the lid to seal it from dust etc. puttputt56 Cruise

Here are the pictures I promised of the back up camera and shovel holder/brackets, thanks to Joey!!  Thanks Son!! The first picture is a close up of the back up camera and it protection guard.

This picture is of the same only further away.

This is the back of the basket where I welded the brackets to hold the D handle shovel, I drilled a hole in the shovel blade and welded a nut to the basket to secure it.

Picture of the nut and two brackets to help hold the shovel in place.

Picture with the shovel mounted and secured in place.

This is the same picture of the shovel mounted but at a different angle.

This is a picture of the basket/tire carrier in its locked position showing the 3rd brake light, rear back-up camera, two reflectors and the back up lights.

Today I was able to take some time and work on the Jeep.  I made the storage area in the rear bumper. I used the plasma cutter to cut out the 4.5" x 24" opening.  I then cut another piece for the lid 5.5" x 25-1/8" out of 1/8" plate. I then welded two Hinges , installed a chrome handle and added two keyed locks to the lid.  I sealed the lid with 1/8" x 1" rubber sticky one side for the sealing surface. I also painted the inside of the bumper to help keep rust down to a minimun. Hope Joey will post the pictures I took today tomorrow after he gets off work if his work load isn't to great (since there was a holiday in there). I am not sure just yet what I will put in there but at least there is an area for more storage. I will more than likely put the two tow hitches in there and anything else for towing. puttputt56

Well I did a little more fabricating work on the Jeep yesterday.  I am fabricating two brackets to mount the two chock blocks I bought the other day for the jeep to mount on the rear tire carrier.  I will have pictures when I finish them and have them installed. I will take pictures before they are installed and then afterwards. I am trying to use as little in material so as to not add much more weight to the back of the Jeep. Chock blocks are made of rubber. puttputt56

Found a little time to work on the other little Chock Block holder.  At least I got it cut to length and bent it into shape.  I cut the other three pieces and shaped them also, so now I just have to weld them up and paint, then mount them.  It got too hot to finish them today.  Going to be 102 today.  I don't like it when it is hot. puttputt56

Here are some pictures of the chock block mounts. Thanks to Joey for posting them for me.

I have removed the bungee cords for the hold downs and replaced them with a spring loaded clip by twisting the yellow rope and hooking the clip through the rope and the side bar of the bracket.  That way it looks a little cleaner. Thanks again Joey!!  puttputt56

Thanks I will post pictures as I get them.  I just orderred the RockHard Sport Cage (front portion only).  I tried to get it from them but they wanted $123 for shipping.  So I got a lead on another outlet and they don't charge for shipping if it is over $100.  So I saved about $140 bucks going to a different outlet for the same product.

My son talked me into going to Moab, Utah this September for the RCC group get together.  Hopefully we will have a good time and seen some real good scenery!! Hopefully I will have the sport cage installed, the new fender flares and relocate the CB Radio to the upper sport cage bars by the time of the trip.

My son came in to check on our house while we were gone.  He stayed a couple of days and while he was there the Rockhard Sport cage was delivered.  So now I have something else to install on the Jeep. We should be heading home right after lunch today. It will be nice to get back to my own computer but will miss this great weather down here.  puttputt56

I got home late last night and couldn't wait to open the box from RockHard 4x4. It all seems to be there. I just have to clean all the oil film off it and do some of the modifications that I plan on doing to it. Such as welding a tray on to the dash bar for my binoculars, and welding a top on the two bars going in the center to the factory bar.  It already has one on the underside so will weld one on top (to form a box) and close the both ends.  I will have to drill some holes to allow for wiring etc. Then I will cut the bottom plate to add a door for access to this area to make for some small storage area or make a bracket to hold my 1911 (45). The CB will be moved from its present location and relocated to this new overhead console set up. puttputt56

Sorry no pictures posted yet but coming soon. I have taken them (pictures); Joey will post them on Monday I am hoping.  I did some work on the Jeep. I started the modifications to the upper center bar (the one that crosses over head and ties into the front factory bar.  I am modifying the double bars by cutting a hole (plate) in it to make for a door and welding a top plate to the bars to form a small storage area.  I could not cut the plate and place the CB up in between the two bars (they were not far enough apart to do that).  So the CB will be mounted to the existing plate (out side of the box I made) and I will come up with a better mount for securing it. I cut and welded the top plate, made two end caps to form the box. Drilled a hole in the lid for a lock, drilled a hole in both end caps for CB Antenna and power leads. I have spray painted all the parts with the first coat of paint. (painted it yellow to match the Jeep) I still have to make a tray for the binoculars and have to get the clamps like the ones I used on the sway bar to hold it in place from walking back and forth. That way I can make it then place it where it will suit me the best. puttputt56

Here are the pictures I promised thanks to Joey!!  Thanks Joey for posting them for me.

This is the parts that came with the kit (RockHard Sports Cage front portion only)

I did some work on the Jeep and the Sports Cage. I got the center piece done and have the CB mounted to it.  I actually got the soft top disconnected and lowered to the back.  Started taking all the parts off that the instruction tell me to. The side uprights are going to be a little hard to install by my self so it will take a little more time.  I painted the kit yellow to match the Jeep, come to find out the stock side bars are black and the rest of the stock bars are yellow. So will take those off and paint them yellow so everything matches.

Again thank you Joey for posting these pictures for me.  Hopefully I will have all this together and we can go hunting this coming week end on the Ranch.  They have made a lot of changes around the cabin so will take some pictures of that when we get up there. puttputt56

I got it all in and it took me about four 3.5 hours days to get it done( had to stop each day because of the heat).  Got it all painted (scratched it up putting it in) but at least it is all yellow to match the jeep. I had to move the CB from the location I had mounted it.  I over looked that the cross over bar sets back about 4" to 5" from the windshield so where I had mounted it on the plate the CB was to far rearward.  So I made another plate out of 1/4" aluminum and attached it with the bolts I had mounted the CB bracket to, then drilled additional holes 4.5" forward toward the windshield.  Now it looks better and I can see all the knobs etc.  Got all the existing factory parts (roll bar pad and covers) that would fit and had to modify some to make them work with all the new bars that are now in the way of the existing equipment (zippers, padding etc.). Some I just cut with a knife and some I had to use my handheld cutter/grinder (the two plastic pieces on the windshield upright post (A pillar). Washed it and it is ready for the hunting trip this tomorrow. Then when I get back I will re-tighten all the bolts after I put it through its paces. puttputt56
