Is that the "unlimited"?  I think that's what it's called, kinda the extended cab of Jeeps?  Looks good, is it already running a lift?

yeah it is the unlimited those are designated as an LJ

its got 2 inch skyjacker spacer lift
33 inch tires on 15 x8 wheels
wider flares
lower control arm skids
steering box skid
rocker protectors
jeeperman front winch bumper
jeeperman rear bumper
full set of role bar nets, they keep dogs and kids from falling out
and it has a huge 700 dollar tuffy security drawer in the beck of it that will become one hell of a tool box for the trail

pics

it this one you can see my current daily driver also for those that have not seen it, its a 2002 cummins 2500 with a few things done

got the cummins up to 1200 degrees pre turbo on the egt's .... and the trans was sitting at 160 cruising and then spiked at 230 driving though town up hill from a stop

and the tuffy box in the back of it .... this was a nice bonus even though they did not have the key for it, i am sure i can get one

ok so i cut this chunk off ...

out of this spot

then i cut this chunk out of this spot ..... you can also see my 1/4 brass pipe fittings i used to make the new axle vent

then i got the grinder out and cleaned it all up ... turned out really good i am very happy with it

front view of how much housing was taken out

bottom view of how much was taken out notice all the the factory plug welds are still in place

then i pre heated the cast housing with the oxy act. torch and then used my mig to weld the tube to the housing .... i did this all the way around not just where i cut, i also did the other side ..... and i post heated with a map gas torch to slow the cooling down so that it was not real rapid ........... might not be the right way but it seems to work for me

then i c-clamped the truss in place and tacked it down in like 4 places ..... remember to set your caster before you start to weld .... mine is at 6 degrees but i can adjust it with the control arms for fine tuning

now i am not sure i needed to do this but i read about it on pirate and it was not hard to do so i figured it cant hurt but i put a bit of anti axle warp preload on it with a chain and a bottle jack ..... i also only weled 1 inch at a time and waited 5 mins between each weld and hopped around the truss as i welded .... hopefully all of this worked out for my and i will have ended up with a straight axle

thats it for now, if i cant find anyone to go drink with tonight i might get up early tomorrow before football and work on the mounts for the coils and the control arms .... if not then that will wait till one night this week if i get motivated

it was premade ..... and let me tell you jim ..... it does not hold a candle to the stuff you built .... i am a complete novice at welding and my welds look better ..... and it took them sending me 2 trusses to get one that was not warped into a pretzel .... and it was $$$$$$ if you ever get to the point where you decided you want to make more stuff .... the jeep market is big business and they are screaming for quality fab

well snow kept me home from work today .... so i worked in the garage .... turned on the heat and got it up to a balmy 65 degrees

ok got some pics

dont worry the diff cover is not staying, if you look real close you can see the corner of the riddler cover down on the ground

the best i can do for a full axle shot not much space in the garage

you think the garage is dusty ? lol

no making fun of my welds

pressed the studs out of the knuckles, and the ball joints out with the new ball joint press .... was real easy once i figured how it worked .... had to use the tech section on here to figure out i was trying to press the joint out the wrong direction

i have not updated this in quite a while ..... i picked up a whole shit load of parts for this thing and threw them all at it on a nice winter day .... got some track bars some springs control arms, brake stuff, shocks ... you name it i did it

we were all too busy to stop and take pics, 3 and sometimes 4 of us worked non stop from like 930ish till 5

rick and nick did basically the whole suspension lift front and rear, and the tore out the front axle, i assembled the new front axle till about 1-130 and then helped install the new front axle

still have got alot of little things to do and adjust but as of now its sitting on its own weight

this is 35's on the rear and 285's on the front

not something you see on the typical jeep on 35's running around the local mall .... also notice the custom centers on the rims lol

clayton track bar bracket .... no turning back now took the welder to the jeep for the first time

dont look at things like bolts being tight or jab nuts ... non of that is done yet

lets play name the missing part in this picture ...

after that day of work i though all was well till i started pondering and front axle and decided i needed to see what was going to happen with flex involved

ok this is at ride height

this is as much flex as i was comfortable with going with, the coil on the driver side was un seated so i figure that probably about as much as i want to go anyway

same position full drop on driver side

passenger side full compression ... this is the pic i am going to need help brainstorming ... i have got to figure out a way to put bump stops on this thing and as you can see the coil bucket and frame mount dont exactly lign up

this is how close the coil is to the bucket

this is with it still flexed up in the front ... looks like the rear is going to be softer then the front is

other side

back side

this was just something i noticed and was not real fond of ... your supposed to be able to run stock hardware with this truss ... the bolt fit fine in the rubicon express arm but the tnt truss sleeve is like a hot dog in a hallway
the more and more i look at these pics the more i dont like the ballistic mounts ... the shock bushings are going to be screaming too they are not close to lineing up ....

i think its going to work for this trip but it might need re working this summer sometime

nick as the bilstines at my grandmothers? in the barn?

rick i will look tomorrow but i think its a ford f250 with 4 inchs of lift ... rear shocks ... i might measure my dodge too ...

ok this is my new thoughts ....

the balistic mounts have got circles that are welded to the bottom foot of the mount, waht i am thinking of doing is taking and cutting the circle off (blue) and making a wedge out of some steel i have got in the garage (red triangle) weld those 2 together ... weld the bolt to the bottom of the circle (yellow) ...

now this will do a few things it will put the coil bucket surfaces on the axle and the frame parallel to each other and it will let me push the coil back slightly .... now in the process i will gain lift from the new lower bucket so what i am thinking is if i remove the 4 inch spring and put back in the stock spring and the 2 inch spacer i will end up with roughly 3 inchs of lift .... so basically dropping the front of the jeep about an inch, which is also good b/c the front was higher anyway and by dropping it i should ba able to get another degree of caster to try and get the thing so it will steer right ....

now by moving the coil spring back it will be sitting over the shock mount on the axle, what i can do with this is actually clearance the ballistic mount  so a shock body can pass by and then weld new shock mounts to the axle tube ... this will let me make the upper and lower mounts  align with each other and it will let me drop the mounting spot down a bit and i can hopefully use the shocks i have already got

thoughts?

so at this point i had decided that i was not going to be able to make my next wheeling trip b/c the front axle still had to be geared .... and i wanted to wheel so out it came and the 30 went back in, this will give me some time to re work the axle as well as save a bit of money

i also picked up a new t-case with a tera low kit and a sye on it .... so i ordered a tom wood ds and added that to the tally sheet, as well as 4 fox racing remote rezzy shocks ... bling

topless first time in 2010

i am probably going to need a new top in the next year .... this one is becoming a huge pain in the arse to put up and down, the frame is all flimsy

i have been meaning to put this pic up ... these are the twin thomas air compressors i installed in the jeep, still have to get them wired and get the tank installed but i had to get them in place

then i fabbed this bracket out of some 4 inch exhaust pipe and some scrap plate ....

pay no attention to my bugger welds, i miss cut when i made the one plate and i had to fill in about a 1/2 inch gap .... but anyway this is where it goes, guys with a manual trans you cant do this b/c this is where the mc for the clutch hydros mounts

and then we have the reason for the bracket ...

just fits with the hood down

and this is so i dont have to have the hood open every time i want to use the winch .... this was the bast place i could find to mount this, figured it would work well b/c if needed you could run the controls through an open window

on my way out wheeling next weekend so  i figured it would be fun to go mall crawlin ... or in my case go to work and use a antique forklift ...... after we tested the new winch pulling its heavy stuck ass out of the gavel ... i was actually checking to make sure i was not going to have any contact issus with different things .... i SHOULD have bump stops on the front axle b/c the shocks bottom out on compression but i dont think it will even actually flex this much in real world conditions

no i dont have a mullet .... its the bushes in the background

it does awesome ... i wish i have to funds to do everything involved with swapping over to a long arm setup, but the jeep does great i am real happy with it

i want long arms and 37's ... with flat fenders and body armor .... but that has to wait till i get the axle in as well as gears and lockers

i really have problems ..... its like an addiction ..... i cant help myself, anyone that watched my trailduster build knows i dont no where to stop and i take projects too far .... well the jeep has not been spared from that

04 lj
stock engine/ auto trans
tera low
1.25 body lift
roughly 4 inch of suspension lift still using coil springs
hi line the fenders
armor
40 inch tires
79 ford 60 front
5:13 gears
arb
chromo shafts
longfeild joints
14 bolt rear
arb
5.13 gears
clayton long arms
h2 rims
front oro sway loc dual rate sway bar
rear currie anti rock

this is the jeep as it is before

how its sitting now

new vs. old

clayton brackets tacked in place

tomorrow i am going to start building the truss for the 60 and start figuring out all the mounts for it

worked on the front truss today and played with the plasma cutter a bunch more .... they are the best tool ever

we need a welding table

more

still have more trimming to do, the truss needs to come down about 3/4 to 1 inch more

and then i really went nuts .... i bought 4 coilovers and 180 or so feet of 1.75 120 wall dom tubing
