Weak Link:  Lean Burn system

Models Affected: ALL 1/2 ton Slants from '81 on, some 1/2 ton V-8 Trucks from the mid 80s. Some 3/4 ton Slants, and some 3/4 ton V-8s

What happens:  Some components, particularly the computer, fail and cause all kinds of driveability problems, from no-start, to rough running, to stalling without warning. They can also cause loss of power even though it runs good.

Easy Fix

Find a points distributor for your engine to replace the ELB Distributor. Hook up is as easy as disconnecting the coil negative wire and hooking the distirbutor wire to that post.

Easy/Strong fix

Find an electronic igntion truck around your year that may be more heavy duty or V-8 powered and grab everything harness-related from the firewall forward including the ignition box, ballast, and distributor. (Note, you are probably better off buying these new/re-man, as opposed to using junkyard parts, unless they are guaranteed).

Harder/Strong Fix

Cut an electronic igntion harness out of a '73-'77-ish car and  splice it into your Truck. Or you can buy a new kit from Mopar Performance and splice that in using their directions.

For additional information on how to do this the junkyard  way, see:

I've used an '84 Diplomat car in this article, but the concept is the same for trucks.
