Title: Catalytic Converter Failure

Weak Link: Catalytic converter

Models Affected: ’94-’01 Dodge Rams

What happens: The internal “brick” in the converter wiggles loose over time. This causes it to come apart & basically block off your exhaust system. This in turn causes the vehicle to become gutless & even achieving 50mph with a converter failure is difficult. Also hacked-together exhaust systems that bounce around a lot will cause the brick to be literally shaken loose over time.

Strong Fix:
For those unfortunate enough to have inspections, you can go with a new high-flow converter. My local exhaust shop had one in stock & $190 later it was on the truck.
*NOTE: Before spending money to get your converter fixed, call your local Dodge Dealer. They usually guarantee the converter for 80,000 miles.

Contact: There are quite a few companies that offer high-flow catalytic converters, such as: http://www.summitracing.com & http://www.jegs.com
*Some companies even offer the converter with a replacement Y-pipe if needed.
