ok i am puting in a nv4500 out of a 2001 ctd and i was wondering where i could get a short shift kit for it i have drove trucks with the 4500 and it would be nice to shorten up the shift throw i have seen mition of it somewhere before but cant rember where.  also i was wondeing if there is a 2 spd axle to put under my i ton single wheel truck or if i just have to use the gear spliter s that are out there  us gear Huh  and?Huh?
i would prefer to just have a rear with a 2spd like my 2 ton has but that rear is way to big to go under my truck

i would say it would be cheaper to do the gear vendors deal. but you would need to change the support housing if your truck is 4x4 as the added wieght of the gear vendors is gonna crack the aluminum one in no time. www.standardtransmission.com has the cast iron peices to eliminate the alum version, and it is really easy to swap out. two speed rear axles would get expensive in my book. lol unless you have a hookup. which you very well may, i know i dont.Smiley

the klune v and the gear vendors are both very good units and they rate them upwards of 1000 hp, so either should suffice. klune v has a link as they advertised here for a while, may still but cant remember

i am not 100percent on the shifting, marty has one of the gear vendors on his truck, i dont have one but have seen them on trucks here in the shop,  although i dont drive them on the highway to use them or anything, but they are supposed to over and underdrive capabilities, they advertise your 5 speed to be a 10 speed so i assume you would be able to double shift like a big truck if you wanted to.

The Gear Vendors is an overdrive.  But it can overdrive any gear, so you will have 1st, 1st over, second, second over, etc.  What a lot of guys do with 4500s and the GV is tow in 4th over, so they don't even use 5th gear, and overstress that 5th gear nut.  The ratio is between 4th and 5th, which is good for towing anyway.  Lets you drop back to 4th with the click of a button on the hills, and upshift the same way.

i want to say they are the same, alot of companies are listing parts for the 98-02 as they are considered to be all 24 valve engines, i would make a call to genos and just ask them for sure, but the ones i have had apart from the mid 90s to current all look to be the same, i dont see where it would be an issue, but i would double check, wendy at genos is very easy to talk to and so are the others there, might just give em a call and see what they can tell you for sure.

I know they change some of the shift tower stuff from the 97 to the 98.  I knew a guy that updated his, I wanna say for that very reason, because the short shift kit only fit 98 and up,  but I could be one hundred percent wrong and be lying and not even know it.  Sorry I know that is no help at all. Huh James

Its the complete top cover off the transmission. A pre98 and a post98 will interchange. However, then you have to have the shifter and the top of the tower that bolts to the top cover.

This is what he told me in a message that I sent to him.  I replied asking him what he did the swap for in the first place, but I'm almost positive that it was to do the shit kit.  He said that to do the conversion only took 10-15 min, but that was with the trans already outta the truck for a dual disc and an upgraded input shaft. Tell you more when I know more, CC

"I did it because I absolutely HATED the extremely LONG throws on the 94-97 5spd's and the fact that nobody made a short shift kit for them.  Just going from the old style to the new style is a "short shift kit" in its own. Its a beautiful thing."

This was his reply to my question of why he did hte swap exactly.  I haven't driven the pre98 5-speed, so I was unaware of the long throws stock, but it makes sense to me.  IFyou need any more info, just tell me.  CC
