...this B.U.D.'s for me...

« on: August 23, 2010, 02:37:07 PM »

For those that don't know me, my name is Sam Ayars ("Mad Max"), and ASA Modifieds is a fabrication business I started in 2003.

I have been a fabricator for over 20 years.  During that time I've done restorations on several Mopar cars and trucks, from basic engine/transmission swaps to 1-off exotic custom suspension systems, minor touch-ups to full custom paint jobs, rock-crawlers to road-racers.  Through the efforts to keep my old iron on the road I have had to make my own parts, and that has grown into a full custom and fabrication business.  Very little is available in the aftermarket for the old-school Mopar rigs, and we are dedicated to keeping our old iron on the road and working better than new.

ASA is your Power and Modification Source for '89-'93 Dodge Cummins Trucks, and we welcome any and all questions about modifications and engine conversions for '72-'93 Dodge Trucks.  We test and perfect our products on our own vehicles before anything is sold to the public.  Over 250 sold, our high-quality Intakes are in production and ready for purchase exclusively from DieselTuff (formerly PDR Diesel).

Cold-Air Intake

The cornerstone product for ASA Modifieds started as a prototype cold air intake system for my own truck has grown into a patent pending kit available exclusively for the '89-93 Dodge '1st Gen' Cummins trucks.

I produce every Intake by hand.  Using 4" high-quality steel each are precision mandrel bent, thoroughly washed inside and out, and then go through a 3-stage sanding process to make the tubing completely smooth and free from all creases and dimples from the mandrel.  Once sanded and de-burred they are chemically cleaned and then powdercoated in one of three flavors - Near Chrome, Viper Red, and our best-seller...Black Chrome.  A logo decal is put on and a complete installation kit with high-quality hardware is packaged and the kits are then sent to our sponsor business, DieselTuff in Vancouver Canada.

DieselTuff has been a long-time supporter and they are rabid diesel experts, many of which own/operate a 1st gen Dodge Cummins rig of their own.  Mark Wilson is the senior rep at DT and he is the guy to call for ordering an ASA Intake.  He is also the very person who dyno'd our prototype Intake kit on his own rig on his own dyno, and armed with the results...well we have been in business together ever since.  We do not sell the intakes direct to the public, and doing business this way is beneficial for both DT and ourselves, and I owe much of ASA's success to DT.

Speaking of dyno results and customer feedback, here is what an ASA Intake can do for your rig:

- Faster turbo spool-up and faster torque - approximately 200 rpm sooner
-- Excellent for rigs that haul or for daily-drivers who (like me) enjoy the benefits of 'more'.

- Lower egt's - as much as a 200* drop

- Increase in fuel mileage by up to 2 mpg

- Fantastic turbo sound - an ASA trademark!

- Fantastic good looks for your 1st Gen Cummins engine bay

ASA Intakes will fit any 1st Gen Dodge rig (1989-1993, Intercooled or non) and sell for $225, plus $17 for non-intercooled rigs.

4-inch Downpipe

I also produce a full 4-inch Downpipe for the same year Cummins engine.  The downpipe is the most important part of a diesel engine's exhaust system, and our DP is designed to enlarge quickly and efficiently to a full 4-inch system, just inches past the turbocharger outlet.  Our DP's fit manual or automatic transmission rigs and will work with either standard or wastegated turbocharger exhaust collars and will fit inbetween the frame and heat exchanger (in an automatic transmission-equipped truck) without damaging the firewall heater box.  These too are 100% hand made and fully seam welded.  Downpipes sell for $250, are sold unpainted, and we recommend sending then to JetHot - the very best hi-temp coating on the planet.

We welcome questions about our products and feedback from our customers.

Thank you for your interest in ASA products.

For questions please feel free to send a PM, e-mail.  Keep 'em on the road.

- Sam

Will the downpipe be available through PDR or will we be able to order direct?

You can order direct from me for the Downpipes.  I just updated the Downpipe section with specs and pics.  I'll have the Intake section squared away soon.

Good question - yes it will fit.  I should actually say that the DP's will fit either the 1st gen or 2nd gen tranny adaptors, and everything past the DP is up to the customer.

I'll need to update my 'infomercial'.  Very good question and a great point - thanks Scott.
